Write Something I can Send Traffic To

I like to send traffic elsewhere. Love it in fact. I have no idea how many requests for link exchanges I get every week - more than I can keep track of. The thing is link exchanges are crap - or should I say the sites asking for a link are mostly crap. Too bad. If you want a link then write something worthy of getting noticed.

A few examples;

Carla wrote a hub a little while back that I have meant to acknowledge but haven't got around too until now. (Sorry Carla - please forgive) Aside from showcasing Carla's extreme talent as a writer this post is the B all and End all for anyone wanting to know how to use hubpages to its full advantage. Beginners - that means you! It's called How to Make Money Writing on Hubpages Everyone trying to make a living online should read this - downright excellent.

Note: Faith from Telecommuting Jobs totally understands how you can help yourself by helping others...

In the same vein, if you are going to target a niche (meaning keywords) then learn the art of writing long posts full of great content (for the readers) while laser targeting your keywords (for the search engines). The following post by Dave aka Mr. Dirty Boots is as good as I have seen anyone pull it off. Take a full pot of coffee with you - Dave's fingers were on fire for this Make Money Online post. Read it - he pretty much sums up 3 years of my posts in a single article - brilliant.

Speaking of Niche's - Fiar describes How to Make Money Writing Political Humor and does a great job of showing you how to integrate various themes (Keywords) into a post that you might think is irrelevant but isn't. This is how you can take a single themed site and turn it into a multi niche site without losing your main focus. (If you are using Adsense this is key to maximizing your profits.)

KS also wades into the niche marketing arena with the following post The Science of Niche Internet Marketing

If you are a beginner just starting out online those posts should be required reading - take my advice and study what they say. Btw - they didn't ask for links but they deserve them.

On a lighter note Terry wrote a post mocking the make money online niche which just happens to show you folks how to get yourself a number 1 ranking keyword in short order. Now his keyword may not get much traffic from the MMO crowd but it might lead to some decent traffic from the Spanish food connoisseurs. Lol Make Paella Online

And Carl wades in on the ever popular "The Secret" with "The Super Rich use The Secret to Dupe The Masses"

And finally Lissie is on another mission to save beginners from wasting money on yet another A-List "noobs can be sold anything" program. This time she has set her sights on CopyBlogger's regurgitated Teaching Sells membership program. I could tell you why Brian Clark is just as much a waste of time as his buddy Yaro Starak but Lissie really enjoys putting the boots to the A-List so I'll let her have her fun. (Check out the comments - Clark shows up but doesn't have the class Darren Rowse showed on Al's Interview with Darren Rowse.)

Related Post; Dirk adds his thoughts regarding Teaching Sells on his make money online blog.

Or check out Agrande's post covering the "Teaching Sells" topic. "Will Teaching Sells give you an Online Business?"

Btw - I have been spying on the forum over at the Keyword Academy. For the handful of you that haven't joined yet I suggest you make your way over there. The forum is a busy place and no - no one is selling anything. Just a bunch of people helping each other out and making good progress as budding Internet Marketers. Spend a buck and find out yourself - it's the best place a beginner could start online.

And yes I have a tee off shortly...

Cheers

Griz

Update: Some people just have the kind of personality that shines - even online and one such sparkplug has taken up the challenge and produced a post about "How to Make Money Planning a Wedding". Alexis is a lovely young lady living in the Swedish outback and I urged her to take action in the comments below - and she did. In record time! Ya' gotta admire her "get up and go-ness" so please take a moment and read her post.

Another Update: Remember Agloco? Well another version of the same old same old has reared it's ugly head called SQIP and before you get lured in check out Simonne's post. (Thanks Simonne!)

Do you really think that posts like the "reviews" Liss does are worthwhile? I haven't bought Teaching Sells or SBI - so I can't give a valid opinion on either one - but neither has Liss. It seems she's just out to make a name for herself by crapping on the successful products out there.

Have fun out on the links...it's off to work for me.

Grizzly said...

or she's showing you how to rank for keywords...

and "successful" doesn't mean good or useful. There is no reason to waste $300 on SBI and I've never heard of one person who has made a successful living online following any A-Lister. Not one. So maybe saving a few beginners some money and a lot of wasted time is reward enough for Lis?

And she's after the keywords!

Larry - I've heard that some people do that... :-)

Hi Griz,

Things are great, thanks. And they'll be perfect when this Florida heat finally cools off for the year or we move to Georgia, whichever comes first.

BTW, it's nice to see you mentioning golf so much lately. Glad you're having fun. :-)

Actually I am almost sure that I did buy Teaching Sells - or come very close to it - back in 2007 - it literally sent me running into the arms into an Employer! You know like a real job!

What gets me John, who at least had the guts to leave a link most don't, is that how come those who promote a product are allowed to lie thru their teeth - and thats OK cause that's called Advertising - but I can't provide - what in the case of Teaching Sells is my genuine experience with the product. Whether or not I actually bought it it made me feel dirty and convinced me that the only way to make money online was to rip other people off.

If you read this blog then you should know Teaching Sells is crap when the promo starts telling you you don't have a real business relying on Google Traffic ...

In this case Grizz is only 1/2 right - I saw a review in my RSS and it bugged me so much I had to write about it - even though my blog didn't need a post - and then I found the keywords. Then I had an insipiration about testing the various authority of some sites I know quite well - but unfortunately I think Grizz just stuffed that up LOL

Thats a stunning hub Carla - lots of good info and really nice layout!

Grizzly said...

Lissie,

One of John's keywords is "Passive Income" - I know CopyBlogger would never give him an anchored link - if he catches on around here he might find a few authority sites that would. ;-) BTW John - don't use the term "our blog" when anchoring your site in a link. That's a useless term - use your main keyword.

Sorry for "stuffing" up your test Lis! (stuffing is a bad thing right?) :-)

Aww Griz don't you like my wedding blogs =( THey're actually full of good info *cry* And they make me no money lol.. Ok not all of them are great.. but the planning a wedding one is!

I wish I knew how to write stellar material, but alas, my english degree has made me the most boring human on the planet.

Speaking of boring..seriously .. golf? Really?

And with the amount of times I read about you tee'ing off, you're making the golf courses near you rich.

Now at least two of my fave people are into golf, but at least Lis redeems herself with dancesport!

As for English courses - yup damned near ruined me in University. I have managed to lose all acquired knowledge since...

Btw - I'm a member of only one golf course and just trying to get my money's worth.

As for dancing... I'm white. A guy. That about sums that up!

Hey all, this may seem like a dumb question, but how do you write crappy content while including a good amount of keywords and long-tails in your content? I have a blog about pest removal, so I know what the searcher is looking for when they find my site, but how do I not help them while maintaining relevancy?

Also, on one of my blogs, I AM indexed(Which is the mistake I made in my last comment that Anthony answered) but I built links too fast I think. For the first month, I built one or two links a day, so google is sending me precious little visitors.

What should I do? Do I keep building links, but less, or should I build MORE rigorously? I have stopped building them for a couple weeks, to see what happened. I threw a link at it today to see what happened...

Sorry if all of my comments seem really stupid. I am just really hungry for knowledge and answers :-)

Dave@A Self Sufficient Life said...

I'm not worthy!

Seriously, thanks Grizz.

Amazingly the post has already made a few bucks.

It will be interesting to see how a long post fares over the next few weeks. I knew the keywords were a bit extreme (very) but just a good way to test things out. The site always seems to rank well for whatever is written so it will be interesting to see what turns up.

I have to say I actually found it quite enjoyable writing such a long post , in a perverse sort of way.

I really must thank you again for saving me from making more mistakes online. At least now when I make a mistake or a site doesn't pan out how I thought it would it's a simple NEXT.

As you say, for the formulas that work it's a simple rinse and repeat.

I can't wait to see how much I can earn in a year when our oldest money maker was only started 4 months ago. I know $100 a day isn't a great deal but when I think I got that working at backbreaking stuff it seems pretty good.

And I get the coffee breaks as and when. Even a little afternoon siesta now and then.

Thanks again Grizz.

@ Lissie - No one is going to have a problem with you sharing your honest experiences with a product, but you don't have hands-on experience with either SBI or TS. Claiming to write a review of a product you haven't used is irresponsible. I would say the same to someone who wrote a positive review of either product without using them. If you're just going to write about your impressions of a product based on marketing copy and hearsay, then that's fine but I wouldn't call it a review.

@ Grizz - Thanks for the catch on "our blog". I didn't think about that when I wrote that page. Thanks.

And also it is greed in my book.... She took the approach that you say anything to get pubicity in the SERPs and from other Bloggers. Its just plain Amateur !!

Frankly, I could give a rats arse about SBI or TS. I personally dont think you need either of those two when you can come here and learn everything for FREE !! But lets have some Class.

Lissie said...

@John I have NEVER written a POSITIVE review of a product on my blog for a product that I haven't used. The point of writing negative reviews (and BTW I didn't use the word review in the title or indeed scam for Teaching Sells - but that's another post) is about warning people to read carefully and for keyword authority. I didn't use hearsay for the Teaching Sells review except for the price - and only then because that is not provided in any of the pre-sales materials ('nuff said IMHO) - I used their OWN ad copy - the quotes are from their own material. If someone offers me a "pre-loved vehicle with some body damage" - I don't need to see it to know that the body work is not pristine - if someone offers me a money making opportunity and then tells me that I can't make any real money from targetting organic search traffic then I know they don't understand much about how the Internet works ...

@Griz "stuffed" - a minor scratch, as in she was a little bit stuffed after dancing the quickstep. Its not serious - in contrast "she was utterly rooted after the day on the 19th hole" - really, really broken/sick/damaged. I forget your English skills are limited LOL

Rhys said...

@ John - I respect Lissie's research skills and believe what she writes. Using your logic, no male gynaecologist could have any credibility either!

@Grizz - I do understand that you are technologically challenged, but the code in this post on how to hide adsense from social traffic has helped a lot of people to avoid "smart pricing".

Start back at 2006 and read forward, or can I jump it a bit sooner?

I'm little fuzzy on how to read forward what to skip what's key, maybe it's in front of me and I'm missing it?

Also I'm a bit confused on the html tags.

You reference doing this (/h1) (h1) "How I changing 1 onpage optimization factor... (/h1)

But the tags are like (h1) text (/h1) and often you are placing an extra (/h1) in front..

Is this a typo or am I missing something...

Dino,

It's always hard to answer questions like yours without a lot more detail. Are you ranking? Sandboxed? How competitive is the niche? Are the links relevant? Properly anchored? (Various terms - not all just the same keyword) Are thr linking sites relevant? Are the links sitewide or content links (in a post) and so on.

Simple answer - keep posting new content and build links slowly and make sure they target post pages as well as the home page. (Don't just send them to the home page) Make sure you are using a variety of keyword phrases in the anchor text and above all be patient. If the niche has a lot of competition it could take a while...

Grizzly said...

Dave - your welcome and worthy! Keep at it and I'm sure in a year you'll find you are making a decent living. Just remember to diversify - more sites - more niches. Depending on just a few can be devastating if something goes wrong.

Como Criar

10,000 rss in 3 months. Can I offer some advice?

Keep that quiet as you have no traffic and no comments. No offense but just about everyone offers a free newsletter these days in order to inflate their RSS numbers. (The feedburner stat adds newsletter signups to the RSS numbers) Worse yet they just spend days and days entering email addresses and names or pay a service to do it in order to inflate the stats.

It may look good to noobs but anyone with 1000 or more RSS subs had better have a good number of "real" url anchored comments to go with the posts. Without real comments (and a relative alexa rank) a high RSS count implies a bit of "fudging the numbers".

Just keeping it real.

Grizzly said...

Paul,

I'd have to go back to see what you are referring to re: the H tags. Simple answer - don't worry about them. Just use the BOLD function to highlite your subheader.

As for what to read and what to skip... search for all posts dealing with "backlinks" and "SEO". You might also want to search for the "adsense" posts as well. see related posts at bottom of each page you read as well.

Sorry the site is unorganized. While it was written to be read I never really expected readers and targeted a lot of terms in the post titles for the sake of ranking them. Don't skip the comments - the best info is contained in them. If you see a post with a lot of comments you would be well served to read the post - probably an important one.

One day I'll get things sorted out... :-)

Grizzly said...

Fiar,

Griz,

Writing something you will link to has just become a passion.

Now..........

Knowing SEO and implementing it are 2 completely different things. There is the time factor (for me). Some people just have more time(patience)than others.

I did not know an F**n thing about ranking for keywords, being able to get on the front page of search, or even why I should.

I already have a business that pretty much takes up all my time (Automotive)and has made me a great living. But I won't bore you with the details.

No matter what you do in life there will be a trade off. You will have to sacrifice something to attempt to achieve something else.

The results will not always be acceptable. You will either keep trying or quit. I am at the beginning of a lot of fun, and this is how I really view it.

When I saw Lissie's post, I immediately linked out to her post to help her rank for Teaching Sells.

I have purchased enough of these piss your time and money away BS programs in my first year of learning online that I have a right to my opinion of any of them.

I might have gotten carried away a little though, I had a little of my non prescription medication prior to posting. (Bud Light).

I always thought that Golf was a waste of time, but I might give it another chance considering the rave here that goes on about it. (Bud Light does effect the brain).

@Alexis, very impressed with your site, expect some Gratis backlinks, you can choose your keywords if you want, just email. dirk(at)dirkpoulsen(dot)com

@ John, I do not care.

@ Lissie, hope I did not get carried away.

My favorite word......

Cheers!

Damn I would really appreciate links but I haven't got anything worth linking to :D Everything is created with just search engines in mind and even if I am accidentally providing some information then it is nothing special...

All of my sites seem to have some affiliate sales attempt going on of which I am not proud of LOL. I will try again when I write something useful LMAO

@fay -- tiny urls DO pass the Google juice unless they are no-followed. all links on Twitter are no-followed.
however, if you were to get a link in a blog post on a blog and the url was a tiny url, it would pass juice.

Jim,

Seems the RSS tipped over 5K this morning. Watch out Darren Rowse - here I come! :-)

John,

Today.com pissed me off and I told them to take a hike. They thought they could edit my posts - not effin likely. Worse, they are such total noobs as far as SEO goes or monetization and I couldn`t stand the ass backwards nonsense. They needed me more than I needed them so I said adios.

Grizzly said...

Kenneth,

An authority site has no hard and fast definition. In simple terms it is any site that Google deems legit - it tends to have age, original content, lots of relevant backlinks and most importantly it has keyword authority - meaning that it will be given priority in the serp`s for the keywords contained in its posts. Btw - if you have authority you can basically rank well for any keyword, whether it is related to your main theme or not. This is why sites like about.com or forbes.com can rank high for a variety of keywords across many niches with little more than a single post on any topic.

Google assumes (and rightly so) that the news networks are legit and anything posted on one of their network blogs or websites is going to be legit (no spammy content) and be of sufficient usefulness and quality. ie. Google isn`t going to have to perform a manual review of a WSJ site. (Nor are they likely to get complaints from the competition)

You don`t have to be a corporate entity to become an authority site though - a track record of relevant links from legit sites will gain any site authority in the serps.

Griz,

Thank you for the link, I appreciate it a lot. As of Sqip, I found out about it from a serious Romanian business forum, so I thought it might be something in there... until I checked them out. The best part was that because of this review I finally managed to rmeember the name of stockxpert, the photo stock site where I had some credits but I wasn't able to use them anymore because I had forgotten their name :)

Grizzly said...

Mike,

Your article pointing to SEOmoz would be more interesting if you had mentioned that a certain blogspot blog has been telling people exactly what the most important metrics for ranking on top of the serps are (backlinks) for years now and the blogger in question didn`t have to survey 72 experts to ascertain the info as late as 2009.

Maybe the experts read the blogspot blog?

I`m not bitter though - what would we do without all those SEO "specialists"? ;-)

Grizzly said...

KS - sorry for the short post. I don`t make as much moola with long ones as explained in my last post.

The serp shuffle tends to last 3-4 weeks on average.

Mike Grae,

You could join the fun right now... help others and help yourself. I can`t spell it out any more than that. (Simonne caught on...)

Dirk... you caught on fast and have been rewarded!

Fay - looks like AL has given you an answer.

Phillip,

You have an opportunity right now to write something useful - what are you waiting for?

Grizzly said...

Allyn,

The sooner there are 100 Authority sites in our community the better for all of us. Now if only all our friends would catch on... :-)

No Simonne - Thank you!

Hey Grizz, I've always avoided deep links on my unrelated sites because I thought it might look strange and get dinged, which wouldn't help who I'm trying to link out to. Think it's ok to add them when I don't have any real authority blogs like this one?

On a side note sometimes I get asked for links from my sites and I've always complied despite not wanting backlinks back. I know not wanting backlinks is weird, but I have a weight loss blog that I jabber on and on about and it's kinda my little story to share, nothing important really. Anyway, my point is that kharma pays.

Grizz, my hubby came home today and I was so excited I literally jumped up and down to show him what you wrote. *beam*

Grizzly said...

Alexis,

A keyword anchored link always helps the intended target site - the trick with deep linking is to edit the content so that the link has some relevancy. (See how Faith added a new blurb to her old post to make things jive.)

As for Karma I like to link to people who like to link to others who like to link to others who like to link to others and eventually the circle becomes complete and everyone gets the gist and a community is borne who lift the whole group up a notch. And best of all - the links are all legit!

You Jabber? Jump up and down? Get excited? I can`t imagine that... :-)

Heck I tried to give it a try after all! If you don't consider this as being anything useful then you might as well delete this comment. But anyways I am at least giving links to friends so boosting that juice will be helpful :D What can I say, everyone already wrote the tricks up my sleeve LOL

Grizzly said...

Phillip - that's the ticket! Before I send the link you have to fix something - remove all the repetitive words in your post titles ie. "I need money now". G will treat you as a spam blog for doing that. Your main keyword is already in your blog title - that's plenty. Also change up the repetitive "what can I do to make money" keyword - spammy as well. Not criticizing - just giving you a heads up before you get in deep with G.

Let me know when the changes are made. The post is fine - well done.

Phil said...

Thanks for the heads up! I have been creating a bunch on niche sites with the same strategy (trying things out) I guess I was trying to make my site "related" to the main part of my keyword.. All changed now... Once Again, I can't thank you enough with all the information you are giving out. I will be giving you links from other sites from other IP's than that one...

Carla said...

Thanks for your additional kind words in response to GraduateBlogger. My cup runneth over. :-)

I have to disagree somewhat about Twitter though. I do agree with you that it's shit for *most* niches, because the spammers are already running wild and clogging it up. But I've used software that finds Twitterers in my exact niche and they visit my links because I post free images all day. Between having people who are actually interested in the images and allowing automated software to posts the tweets, it works. It was a bit of a PITA at first but it runs pretty much on autopilot now.

Having said that, Twitter is utter twaddle for people who think they can just pile up followers from here and there and get results. As with any kind of traffic, it's all about the targeting. Ha! Like I have to tell you!

Michael said...

Hey Griz, maybe my comment got eaten (or you didn't like it...lol) but I wanted to thank you for all of your lessons as I've been able to start getting paid from adsense which is awesome!

Anyway, I tried to create a post that was link worthy here:

Hi Griz. Just posted an article which I hope meets your criteria for "linkable" in your previous post.

More relevant to this post, for Google keywords tool, make sure to divide by 30. The figures there are for monthly traffic, not daily traffic.

Telecommuting Positions said...

Wow, I just noticed you posted me a link to my telecommuting jobs hub :-) Thanks a lot! Definitely wasn't expecting it here though (blushing)

It's been a while since I've worked on backlinks there but I'm going back over older posts I did and trying to boost them in the SERPs now that I have a better idea of what I'm doing. However, before I found you or Court, I actually did some testing of my own and created a few other hubs around the long tail keywords that Analytics was showing coming into my hub. Now, unfortunately, when I did that it pulled traffic from that hub, but now a few of those hubs rank #1 for the keywords of those hubs, so I accidentally did something kinda good. Now, I guess my question is, do I just keep building hubs and blog posts around those long tails and then anchor back to the main hub? I think I know the answer, but figured I'd ask anyway...

Also, am I ok using RSS feed links when interlinking or should I just stick with anchored links?

Thanks again for "paying it forward"!

-Faith

Hi Griz,

I am so grateful for all the advice given on your blog and all the valuable links that you are providing to the people around you.

My blog is still just starting, but I am taking all the advice serious and hope that it will become a success.

My blog is in German, maybe you could take a look at it and give me some comments. Maybe not too much about the content, but any advice of the great Griz would be much appreciated thanks.

Appreciate it,

Griz,

I just got done reading through the post on A Self Sufficient Life and must say, I am very impressed in general. I've been doing PPC marketing for a couple years now and do well with it, but there's just something about doing things for free that strikes a chord in me.

Perhaps it's the profit margins, or perhaps it's the being able to sleep at night but I'm definitely intrigued.

On the recommendation of a friend, I've taken some time reading through a large portion of your posts from the beginning of this blog and have learned some key things I can apply to all of my websites.

Outstanding work. Keep it up. :)

Hi Griz,

I have been digging through and reading your posts for well over a month now, and have started a few blogs to get myself going. I have a 6 month old daughter that I stay home with, so it seems this might be a way for me do a little work and contribute monetarily. I have been trying to apply what I learn as I go, hopefully improving a little here and there. Of course I made the mistake of choosing too competitive of a keyword with the weight loss stuff before I learned to choose something less imposing. (I was thinking popular would be better.) However, I am continuing to add to the content of that so when I get better at this, I can utilize it.

I have been submitting to directories with Directory Submitter, adding content, posting to GoArticles.com, and experimenting with either/or adsense and affiliate marketing (through Amazon and AllPosters) on my various blogs, which are:
commonsensehealthandweightloss.blogspot.com
goodhealthfooddiary.blogspot.com
worldwariiart.blogspot.com
worldwariibook.blogspot.com
worldwariimovie.blogspot.com

Any advice or direction you could give would be greatly appreciated. BTW - it's certainly refreshing to find an individual willing to help folks out in these greedy times. I can't say enough about what you're doing here.

Thanks a million - Ashley

Project Payday - A Legit Method to Make Money at Home

I have included Project Payday on my blog for all of my readers who write in asking if there are any legit online programs that they can use to make some quick money. Project Payday is not a get rich quick scheme - it is more like a work at home job. You don't need a blog or website as it involves getting paid to try out trial offers from online advertisers. There is work to this but you can realistically earn a couple of hundred dollars a day if you want to put in the effort.

I have written several posts about this and suggest you start with this one. Project Payday

Unfortunately Project Payday is only available to American users at this time.

CashCrate is another program similar to Project Payday and they do accept people world wide - it's free to join.

For comparative purposes the stats below reflect my actual earnings with Cashcrate.

A Little Heart to Heart

If you have made it this far down the page then I assume you might just be serious about learning how to make a real sustainable living online - as opposed to the thousands of visitors I see daily looking for that "get rich quick" miracle that really doesn't happen without a winning lottery ticket.

You have probably figured out by now that you aren't going to find the answer in a $47 ebook or by following your favorite twit on twitter. The fact is many of you are still wondering how this plain free hosted Blogger blog dominates the rankings on the search engines - right? Did you find this site by typing in "make money online" in Google?

If you did then you are halfway to learning the secret to making money online - you need targeted traffic from the search engines (for any niche you pick) and once you have that, you can sell them what they are looking for. Sounds simple and on paper it is - actually dominating the search engines is the hard part. It takes time and you do need to understand keywords and anchor text links. You can spend time on this site and sift through my posts to learn this or you can do yourself a favor and pony up one buck and test drive Court's Keyword Academy Crash Course for a month and learn just why I rank number 1 in the search engines.

This isn't another waste of money or time - just an honest answer for the few of you willing to do the work and who really do want to make a long term sustainable living online. Read my blog from back to front or try a more focused approach with Court - either way you will not be disappointed.

Cheers

Griz
