How Long Can You Go Without a New Post?

Hi everyone... did ya miss me?

Sorry for the absence and thanks for all the concerned emails - nope, I haven't fallen off the edge of the Earth. I took a few weeks off to tune up the Golf game (Tiger is in no danger of losing his number 1 ranking) and have been getting the fishing lodge into shape for the start of our season. The fisherman start arriving in a couple of days and we still have some ice floating around on the lake. On top of this we have had the driest spring in ages which has brought about an onslaught of forest fires which is both good and bad. Bad because the lodge could burn down and good because I am currently housing and feeding 45 fire fighters. The troops assure me that they won't let the lodge go up in flames if for no other reason than they don't want to be sleeping in tents...

I do have several topics I want to discuss but they will have to wait a bit longer. Just wanted to let those who are interested know that I am still kicking and haven't abandoned ship. I am hopelessly behind on the comments and emails - sorry about that - kinda why I have never pursued a social blog. The real world tends to rear its ugly head from time to time and this is my busiest time of the year in regards to my off line business.

Just a quick note of thanks to all of you who have been faithfully dropping in to see if I have posted anything new or heaven forbid interesting... well this is new... I'm not sure who has checked in the most Irene over at Bitter Tonic or April from Of Scotland but thank you both. Honorable mentions go out to James at Cool Videos and Zani at Making Money on the Net. I do know that my friend Terry who Makes Money the Honest Way has been cursing me to high heaven for sneaking off and leaving him to tend to the private forum alone. (I'll be back soon folks)

While I'm throwing around links there is a site that I enjoy immensely but haven't had the opportunity to link to as it has absolutely nothing to do with my subject matter. Kathy at The Junk Drawer is one of my favorite bloggers for the simple reason she has that rare natural writing talent that shines through regardless of her topics - she yaks about a lot of stuff and makes the most obscure things funny ala Dave Barry but I'll warn you she does have poo on her mind quite often. Please check her out - she has a growing fan base but in my opinion she should really be huge. (Warning you could waste away the day reading her archives.)

I see Vic and Blogger Unleashed is hovering around page 1 on Google for "make money online" and kudos to him - he has done it in record time. Now we just need to get a few more of us on the page and we will rule...

Speaking of Vic, I see the man keeps stirring the pot and Steve over at McGrath Dot Ca has the latest scoop as well as this anonymous blogger Niche Store Writer. (I'm guessing that anon is Elliot)

Okay - gotta run but before I do a final thanks to all of you who sent me a note about this blog http://makemoneyonlinestore.net/ - take a look and feel free to leave some nasty comments. You'll see why I didn't bother to link to it - can't wait to see this post on that site...

I will be back in the swing of things in a day or two so thanks for your patience!

Take care,

Griz

Do I read "private forum"? Is there any chance I may join it? Regarding your silence over the past weeks, I admit I missed your posts.

Grizzly Brears said...

Hi Simonne,

Send me an email with "private forum" in the subject and I'll send back instructions. This applies to any of my regular readers...

Thanks Simonne - nice to be missed!

Griz, thanks for the mentioned.

I got the RSS feed so I'm sure I won't missed a post from you.

Business must come first and do have a good season. ;)

Logging in, looking at my google home page, no new post from Grizz, clicking on the last post, scrolling down to the comments, no new comment from Grizz, going to the forum, clicking on find all posts by Grizz, looking for any new posts ......nothing, logging into my mail box and continuing my activities of daily living online.

This was my daily routine since you left your last post in the forum. Thanks for coming back.

Hey, Grizzly! Been wondering where you were. Good to see you back. Thanks for the mention, too! I'm blushing. I'm never going to live down that poo post, am I?

Have a great weekend!

Grizzly,

I read Make Money Online - Who Do You Trust and thought he wrote an excellent summary of the MMO market.

I really didn't understand why you wanted to leave "nasty" comments about the guy.

Then it hit me. (Actually I hit my head when fell out of my chair LMFAO.) He stole your money post.

At least he stole from the best!

Well Grizz,

You absence has forced me to be productive. LOL, missed your posts though. I meant to do a look up on the scraper of your posts. However, I got busy doing some emergency plumbing(yuk)

Grizz,

Haven't stopped by your blog in a while - in fact haven't been blogging at min in ages! Been visiting Vic and building some Niche sites and BANS sites - find it really addictive lately, sad I know, but once you get going on something it's hard to stop! lol.

Glad to hear you've been well. One question though, has the site been still making you a packet even though there's not been fresh content going up?

Jordans said...

Yo Man, Da Griz is back. Well, I think the forum's been somewhat lacking without the usual grizzofornicative illuminatory. But the big T did a good job advising and answering.

Great to see you are back. As a new blogger I am looking forward to new posts. I briefly checked out the Junk Drawer. You are right, Kathy can write very well. I will be reading more later. Thanks for sharing.

Griz!

Glad to see you are back, and thanks for the link, but that one about Gary Conn vs. Vic is not me, I hadn't even heard of what was going on with it until I found that post!

Hey, disregard my email on the forum, was a Google burp.

Glad to have you back and tell the "brothers" staying with you to keep safe from me!

Hey Nick,

Vic has a whole army building bans - you guys are going to own ebay by the time he is finished!

The nice thing about Adsense is that my earnings have only increased - who needs a fresh post? Strangely enough my RSS has increased as well - go figure.

Grizzly Brears said...

Jordans,

Grizzofornicative - oh boy, that sounds pretty NSFW! lol.

I'll be back on the forum soon - Terry is a pretty smart cookie and knows a lot more than he thinks he knows. The fastest learner I have met and the bugger never stops working. He's been a great friend and I owe him big time.

You seem to be the "untouchable" man. Are you real...LOL?

What about this Vegas thing I've seen Vic mention?

Welcome back Griz. I figured you were busy with something. My son and I were watching "Ice Road Truckers" last night and he said, "Doesn't that Griz guy you talk to live around there?"

Man Griz it has been a while. Didn't know what happened lol. I am going to be covering some videos on working blogger blogs shortly and will be doing a lot of referencing to this blog.

Oh and by the way other people are ranking too ya know for make money. turns out I am right below you for make money blogging.

I know things are absolutely crazy for ya, but when you do get a chance stop on by or hit me up on skype.

Take care!

Good to see you back dear friend but most happy to know that it was what I said just time to take care of business and some well deserver R&R. I had to answer both on the channel and at the comments multiple times the where is Grizz question LMAO!!! WHich I always say the same thing.

Folks once in a while we need to dissapeer and go make real money in our real businesses.

Grizz in no short form I have to thank you and the wonderful folks that have consistently given me juice to rank for the term indeed in record time it says much about the authority the blog has gotten in such short time.

Both you and your loved ones will be in our prayers with the fires and always remember dear friend we can always replace material things but we can not replace you or yours.

Hey Mike,

Man you are a busy blogger - Rhinoplasty, Skin Care, Weight loss and Liposuction... I see you are branching out from the Golf venue! Hope things are picking up for you cause there ain't nobody who works harder at this than you.

As far as fit goes this old body is sore as hell after 21 straight rounds and I couldn't break 80 - 12 3 puts my last round - I suck. (I shot 82 - if I could only putt!)

I am all too real but as mentioned this blogging for fame just ain't my game. I am definitely planning on Vegas if I can swing it - will depend on the fisherman - Sept is the second busiest month after June but hopefully I will sneak away. I would love to meet everyone in person.

Send me an email if you need to yak - I've more or less emptied everything else into the "to do" folder at the moment.

Nice to hear from you Mike.

Grizzly Brears said...

Frank,

You never cease to surprise me with your talents - I left a short blurb on your in-line post. Those of you who are using Blogger should definitely check out Franks templates.

We will have to have a little chat Frank.

Grizzly Brears said...

Justin,

Great to hear from you and my apologies to you and Vic. Didn't mean to up and disappear on you two but had to get some things straightened out. I have you two on the top of my list as soon as I get back into the swing of things. BTW - I had noticed you making some quick gains in the blogging niche - well done - then again how could you not? Will be skyping you soon.

Grizzly Brears said...

Vic...

Thanks for covering for me - you know more than anyone what this business entails and aside from the golf I have had a busy month tweaking my mundane blogs that don't get comments but do get visitors. The little Google slap against Blogger was an unexpected surprise but a learning experience and thankfully I came through unscathed and a little wiser. It is now apparent that fresh content is going to play a larger role in the rankings than before - more on this in a future post.

Vic - congrats on the page 1 ranking - I couldn't believe my eyes. That was fast and totally warranted IMHO and even I have to admit that being known has some definite benefits - Backlinks! I think we need Court on the page as well and Frank and Justin and Elliot and several others then I won't have to read any more posts about John Chow! lol.

btw - start targeting "How to make money" - it has far more traffic than "make money online". I suspect the MMO numbers look higher because of all the bloggers checking their rankings and not actually searching for the top blogs. The things we learn...

Thanks for your prayers and as I said to Justin - I will be in touch shortly.

Thanks Vic and glad things are going so well!

Grizzly Brears said...

Rhys and Tarif,

Thanks for thinking of me and it's nice to be missed. Didn't mean to leave you all hanging - my apologies. It did give me a chance to see how the wind was blowing and I have a few new ideas I want to chat about so hopefully the break will prove to have been worthwhile.

Grizzly Brears said...

Denise,

You have been with me for a long time and your comment means a lot. Thanks so much and having friends like you, Terry and Frank looking out for me is what makes this so much fun. The irony is that making money online while gone for a month is easier than making the friends I have met while doing this. Thanks for missing me Denise - missed you as well!

Grizzly Brears said...

Zania,

You are welcome for the link - I love your style. The fact that you have come from the "Adult" side of the internet is intriguing and your brain would be well worth picking. lol. I hope some of my readers take a moment and read your posts - good stuff and a whole new perspective. All the best and we will talk more in the forum.

Grizzly Brears said...

Neena,

Nice to hear from you and I hope all is well. Glad to hear you are a "Junk Drawer" fan as well. Kathy has the type of talent I could only wish for - some people are born with the ability to entertain the rest of us and Kathy has the gift. The Neenmachine looks great and I see you are as busy as always - can I send you my kids for some straightening out? The only parenting tip I have is to tell them to talk to their mother! Lol.

Always great to hear from you Neena.

Hi Griz, glad to see you're back! That must have been some pretty engrossing golf... I had to laugh at your getting the firefighters to stay at the lodge! Now that's good business!

The forum has been ticking along ok and there have been some great contributions in there - plenty of people are really wising up to all of this and coming up with great ideas of their own. It all goes into the melting pot.

This will have to be short as I'm getting ready for my first live gig in 18 months this evening playing in a new blues band and I'm doin bass and all the vocals, which is going to mean I probably won't be able to talk tomorrow!

Some will say that's a blessing... ;-)

Not sure where I will get with this but you can expect an email one of these days. lol.

Carla @ WordPlay said...

I'm delighted you took the book idea to heart!

If you need any help with structure (that's a big part of what I do as an editor), please don't hesitate to ask. Sometimes it's easier to have someone else organize the information so you can be free to do updates and be creative. Because I've been one of the newbies you've taught, I have some ideas about how your material could be structured so it's easy to digest.

Carla @ WordPlay said...

Ack! I just realized my last comment about helping make your material easy to digest could be construed as a little insulting. What I meant to say is that I have ideas how it could be structured to be easily digestible in a book format.

When I came here, I got distracted from the course I had bought, brewed me some coffee, and read until I couldn't read anymore.

I would post the guys digital point name, but hehas been banned for some reason. Anyway best $15 I've spent to introduce me to the real making money online world.

Haha.. Tiger is not losing his #1 spot. Very funny indeed. I am glad you have started posting again. Thanks.

Grizzly Brears said...

Steve B,

You bring up the basic problem with this blog - too much info all spread out and disorganized which is why Carla's Idea of writing a book is so appealing.

Carla

I may take you up on the offer to help. I would like to update a lot of the old posts ( the how to stuff ) and organize everything into a beginners guide with everything laid out step by step for those just starting out. This is my problem though - I don't think like a beginner and tend to overlook things that are too obvious to me but may not be for others.

I have tried to gauge what most people want to know by my email and comment questions but this is incomplete. I would have better focus if a third party such as yourself could give me an outline from your perspective of what would be most helpful. Yup - this is asking a lot and I thought I might throw a post up asking my readers for some direction in what they would like to see.

I suspect that you (Carla) understand what I am getting at - I just want to do the writing - not the planning and organizing. lol.

If you have any ideas I am all ears.

Btw - no insult was taken - I knew exactly what you were saying and you were quite correct.

a second BTW - is "Ack!" an officially endorsed word? Ha.

Dinheiro,

- Thanks for the welcome back and I hope you are prospering my friend.

Antonio,

- No matter how you got here - just glad you did.

ANYWAY, sorry, I babble a lot. I'm a babbler. I'm doing my best to retain the incredible amount of info from you, Vic and Court. And I can't wait to see what else you have in store for all of us!

Hi Griz,

I love the idea of asking readers what they'd like you to cover. Before you do that, though, let's get on the same page. (Pardon the book-related pun.) I'll send you an e-mail tomorrow with a few things that should be considered before asking for input.

And, yes, "ack" is a word -- at least in my world! An editor friend uses it when she screws up, and I think it perfectly describes the sinking feeling I get when I've just made an ass of myself.

Best wishes,

Yay. You're back. Yes, I do check often ( blush.) You are right there on my toolbar and my favourite research/procrastination ploy. I check in the morning over coffee, the afternoon a bunch of times, and in the evening when I crawl into bed with my laptop, I check again, looking for a good bedtime story, so that i can have visions of keyword research dancing in my head.

So yay - you're back. Can't wait for the next chapter. And thanks for the link :)

Welcome and I forgive you for checking out Court first...

Don't be a stranger and best of luck with your site - that's quite the assortment of keywords you are chasing. Comic books? I was a collector as a kid and still have about 10,000 locked away - what is Action #1 going for these days?

Nice job with the local niche - BlogsChicago - any traffic yet?

Dave from Welcome Back Rosenthal said...

Oh my! Thanks for the visit-but NOOOOOO. My blog is no longer what I consider a "money blog" with those topics. It does about 2$ a day with Adsense but I now make a very distinct separation of "personal blogs" (what I believe you call social/wp blogs) and my "money blogs."

My blog's goal right now is to secure variations of my name. I'm halfway through a 400 article submission now (I think C uses a service, but I use software). It was built wrong before I learned stuff, so I'm making the best of it.

My Adsense blogs are built on blogger, are one topic, and use that white/dot template because it has right side Adsense insertion. My ebay blogs are WP with phpbay (which I started with via GoldenCan) or pure BANS. My affiliate stuff is still in testing. But those are the 3 sources I "preach."

Thanks again for the reply AND personal visit. Oh, the Chi stuff has mixed results.

Hello Griz, I'm a relative new reader of your blog, and was wondering if you noticed an outage on blogger.com today june 2nd, did that affect your income, and would that make you think about using an external host for your blogspot.com money making blogs?

Carla @ WordPlay said...

Hi Griz,

I just sent you an e-mail as long as one of your blog posts (yikes!). Please let me know if it didn't arrive.

Irene said...

A life? No, I tried that. Next up :) Haha. Actually, I'm not yet in Newfoundland - getting there next month - so I'm procrastinating packing, doing paying work, looking for work and all that mundane stuff. Who has time when there's article writing to do? I haven't written this much since ---univers ---uh--- ever.

Plus I have to read your stuff over and over because the methods in their madness are so detailed and complex and way beyond what my clueless brain could ever imagine. You've fine tuned it like surgery and I don't want to go blow it on my first try. I've just realized I've been smart priced for years. Who knew what that meant?

Also - you do write really well, in a "let's gather round the fire and I'll tell you a story" kind of way - "the story of how I made my way to the top of mount Google and only got slapped twice" and you're probably the only guy who can tell it that way in this niche. There's got to be money in that!

So - ya! All your stuff all together in one book....very nice.

If anyone just tried to get into the forum and found it locked, that's because I just installed a new version, which is something I needed to do before I could move the whole site onto the new server. Yesterday, you said in your e-mail that you had to tend to the fishermen. When I read that, I had this instant vision of you telling ghost stories to a bunch of men around a campfire! I'm sure I got that image because story-telling is one of your great strengths.

Also, thanks to Irene for underlining the reason for the book structure I suggested when she made this comment:

"I have to read your stuff over and over because the methods in their madness are so detailed and complex and way beyond what my clueless brain could ever imagine."

Exactly!

Grizzly Brears said...

Carla,

So Irene is clueless then?

Kidding!

You are of course correct as usual - except we never tell ghost stories. Rather it is a lot of BS over just how big that fish was that got away... all summer long. (I'm sick of fish stories!) ha.

I am half way through your email - you have learned how to write looooong posts - well done.

Talk soon.

Welcome back Grizzly, Missed you greatly. Did you get my email! So nice to have you back.

Oh Griz, did I say almost as excited? I meant to say even MORE excited than when I saw Al at Target. What was I thinking?

Thanks for the compliment and the go ahead on the babbling. (hope you don't learn to regret that one)

Great. "Irene is clueless" is now my number 1 keyword. Going off to make some cafepress mugs with the slogan. I'll bring them to the campfire and we'll have cocoa and marshmallows, and find out just how big that fish that got away was.

Grizzly Brears said...

Apmis,

I have searched and don't see your email - please re-send and I will look out for it. Sorry about that and thanks for the welcome back.

Abby,

Between my mother, my wife and my two daughters... I KNOW Babbling! You don't have a chance but I'm willing to be impressed! ha.

(Nice recovery on the Pacino thing!)

Grizzly Brears said...

Irene,

That's the spirit - I've always said that folks have to target a keyword and stick to it... shall we all send you links using your new number 1 keyword? lol.

Carla @ WordPlay said...

Sorry about that, Irene! I was trying to make the point that many people are initially clueless about the stuff Grizzly teaches and I accidentally made you the poster child.

Ack.

I checked my feed reader almost every day to see if you posted.

I was a little worried that something might have happened to you, but I just assumed you were trying to prove that a blog can still grow in traffic (or at least sustain it) even if you don't post for a month.

Grizzly Brears said...

Carla,

Ack!

Trent,

Actually my traffic did increase - go figure. Thanks for checking on me and I hope things are going well with your blogs Trent. Your empire must be expanding quite well by now. Always nice hearing from you Trent.

Everyone,

I've been checking in fisherman for two days now and things should settle down long enough for a new post later today - hopefully.

I would never buy a book on how to make money online...

With one exception. I would totally buy a book from you on any topic. You're a great storyteller, as others have said. Forget Google, you are the real Big G.

Fiar said...

And what's with the completely 100% social post? Have you given up on trying to teach people how to make money online? Say it ain't so. I hope those firefighters stay safe while doing their dangerous work. My brother is a captain. I try not to think about the risks he has faced, and he doesn't talk about it.

;)

Grizzly Brears said...

Fiar,

Hey nice to hear from you and I hope all is well.

I was debating whether to sell it for $997 or $999 - tough call so I think I'll just stick to "Free".

Yes that is my second "social" post and 100 comments later I'm thinking maybe I'll start posting photos of our daily "shore lunch"! This social blogging is easy... lol.

I would not want to be fighting forest fires or any other kind - dangerous is an understatement and I have a lot of respect for the guys and gals (we have two ladies on the fire line as well) who do this kind of work. They are all tough as nails and work in horrid conditions without so much as a complaint. Great people.

Thanks for dropping in Fiar!

Hi Griz,

I just had the forum down for another half day while I migrated to the new server. This time, thanks to the previous upgrade, I was able to post a message so anyone who opened the homepage would know what I was up to this time.

I have to say all my fears about that particular move were unfounded. The database backed up and restored perfectly in its new home and apart from one problem with a password needing to be reset, everything looks fine.

I am now preparing for the avalanche of "I can't log in" complaints... ;-)

Griz, now when you log in you have a completely different admin panel to get your head around. It still confuses the hell outta me and I've been spending a lot of time cramming my head full of the all its new quirks!

While I'm here, I actually have a question for you.

I take it you still don't use bookmarking demon (to get a load of spammy links to your sites)?

I know Vic practically comes in his pants over BMD but I can't help thinking it is a lot of hot air and hollow threats that will not last very long at all once the chaps and chapesses at Google decide to frown upon it... and all that work will be for nothing.

So there I was, happy to work diligently away at creating as many real (farmyard) blogs as I could that would, in due time be able to provide keyword anchored links to my main sites as per your old tutorial posts several months ago. Then Vic came along with BMD with the promise that it will do the same job in a 100th of the time.

Except to my way of thinking, each of those BMD links are worth very little on their own as they are and its only their sheer numbers that give a site they point to any authority. Whereas solid keyword anchored links from my own blogs may be far fewer in number but are "real" and far more weighty when it comes to providing authority link juice, originating from similarly niched sites.

So when it comes to balancing weight of numbers against weight of authority I personally feel there is more long term mileage to be had with legit looking (farm) blog links in their dozens than spammy looking BMD links in their thousands.

Is there a question in there or did I just reason it out for myself in that long winded ramble?

Looks like I saved you making another post today with this little nugget of content LOL!

Ok now, I'm putting up the same question/comment on Court's, Vic's, and Griz's websites. I'm hoping to get an answer from them personally or from the (vibrant) community on these websites.

Fist of all let me say that I run a personal finance blog and totally got off on the wrong foot when it comes to monetization. Vic would probably call me a dumbfuck but hey I'll take it. I deserve it and let's face it, he's got the goods. So slowly but surely I've been correcting stuff and averaging a healthy 3% CTR in spite of it all.

I have been testing the waters when it comes to article runs but I have this one big question. On my blog I can branch into many different topics, like credit, insurance, loans, investing, retirement, and so on. I have been lucky with a few long tail keywords and could definitely do a bit of keyword sniping to rank higher.

I see that when Vic's does his article runs, he links all his anchor text to his home page. I was wondering if in my case it would make sense to do the same or link my anchor to the specific post that is related to it. That is, instead of linking anchor text "401K" to my home page, would it be better or not to link it to a 401k post. I was thinking that linking to a specific article on my website would make that specific post show up in the SERP and not my homepage. It would then take the reader directly to the post he did the search for and not to my homepage, which at the time of the search might have an article he's really not interested in.

Thank you in advance. And of course, constructive criticism is welcome!

Chris said...

Griz, what are your thought on bookmarking demon and do you use it at all?

Grizzly said...

Terry,

The new forum looks great - nice job and I'm glad it went smoothly. Of course it means I have to learn something completely new AGAIN! Sheesh... ha

Thanks for the post um I mean comment - yup, I think you got around to answering your own question. I don't use BMD myself but it should be noted that I haven't had to go that route for backlinks. Those of you who belong to the forum know my methods and without saying too much I have found that fewer links from authority sites is more effective and efficient but also more expensive. I think BMD is probably a good option for those who are not in a position to do things my way but as you said - you will need a lot more BMD links in order to achieve the same results.

How effective BMD is - I can't say since I don't use it but even crappy links are better than none at all. I would be interested in hearing some results from those of you that are using it though.

Good or not it is still one of the few options available for beginners who need backlinks and are still a ways away from being able to provide or procure their own links. Will G shut it down eventually? Probably - that's the fate of all black hat programs and as long as people are smart about things they should be able to limit the fallout.

Good topic for some feedback Terry and hopefully some of the gang will give us their thoughts.

Will,

You are talking about getting deep links and yes you should link relevant articles to the relevant pages on your blog. The thing to keep in mind though is that you want your homepage to rank well for your main keywords and your pages to rank well for the long tails. If your main keyword is "401K" then I would be sending links to both the homepage and all relevant pages. (as well as interlinking all the relevant pages) If "401K" is just a long tail then just focus on the page and don't bother with the homepage.

Hope that makes sense.

Chris,

See my answer to Terry.

I have limited my BMD runs to my agriculture crop (I'll leave the actual term) for discussion in the forum.

I don't use BMD to point towards my money sites. As I have listened to Griz and Vic, I have become somewhat.. as Vic would say, a "Paranoid Bitch" :0) I don't think the social bookmarking sites will get hit that hard by "G".

However, I can see someone from "G" buying the software and doing something about the scuttle sites. At least that's what makes sense to me. But hell, I am a noob. I could be way off.

One thing to point out.. Per Griz's post.. Vic has made it to page 1 for "make money online". And it took him 4 months. I believe Grizz said it took him a year. Please correct me if I am wrong. So, both methods work..

The next questions is sustainability (how easy is it?) Grizz's way or Vics method.. Who can walk away from that niche for the longest with their site staying the most productive and losing the least bit of ground?

It also wouldn't surprise me if Vic had some other tricks up his sleeve that he uses. LOL. as I am sure Grizz does.

BTW Grizz.. thanks for that hint about putting a link in a period. I did find someone that stole one of my articles. I had to reach in my bag of tricks to get them back. LMAO.

Grizzly said...

Thanks Dennis,

It should be pointed out that Vic had the advantage of some key authority links (mine and Court's plus a lot of you folks) that I didn't have when targeting the term and this would have sped things up considerably. This is not to say that the BMD links didn't help but they can't be judged independent of the quality links.

Ultimately the point is to just get links - good or crappy - they all add up and eventually you will build enough authority sites that you produce your own stable of quality links. Once this is achieved you will find that you can target just about anything and find yourself ranking well in short order. The process is unbearably slow when just starting out but have patience as it does get considerably easier once you get a few sites established.

As for "tricks" I'm sure Vic has a few things he keeps quiet about as do I but not because we don't want to share - I have a few things that I have come across that give me an edge but only because no one else is doing it. Unfortunately these kind of tricks become useless as soon as others start doing the same thing. ie. revealing these tactics would be pointless as they would then cease to work. (Think of the quick index trick - as soon as we told everyone about it the big G slammed the door as everyone jumped on it.)

Rest assured that if I find something that can be shared I have told the rest of you and will in the future.

Thanks Griz,

Good Point about how you guys have helped each other. That definately is an excellent point. As far as tricks..you have taught people how to fish. However, it's up to the individual to be a fisherman. and each fisherman has his own tricks.. ;o)

I have to say that, to me, BMD just feels wrong. It just feels like spam in its truest definition. I can't bring myself to use something that feels so viscerally wrong. Some things that are in greyer areas are still things that seem fine to me, regardless of what G or anyone else may think, but BMD just seems wrong.

That's my take on it.

Terry said...

Oh crap, I submitted a comment and forgot I was logged on as someone else... d'oh!

Terry said...

Thanks Griz,

Sorry about the new learning curve I've crteated with the forum! It was a necessary thing as I couldn't easily migrate it across servers without first upgrading the software, as the old version I was running is no longer an option in Fantastico's setup. Hence when I created the new database on the new server it had to be 3.1 and all the tables were different.

As for the links debate, which I have a feeling this might turn out to be, it must be my self-reliant gene that makes me shy away from using linking techniques such as BMD and other unmentionables.

So I've been slowly (very slowly!) building my own sources that give me full control over what happens with links. I figured it out once before but went about it all wrong and got myself into trouble which was costly.

Now I'm doing it right and have the proof that slow link building does work. I have several squidoo lenses that have been in existence for over a year now. Initially I created an interlinking setup that meant that each lens linked to lense that didn't link back, creating a mediocre array of one way backlinks to each lens. Some obviously got more links than others and those that got the most are now PR3 and rank moderately well in various search engines.

Those lenses are not linked to from any other external source, by the way.

That's how I know the value of careful linking. All the lenses are packed with good content and are totally legit. Google can see this and has rewarded them appropriately although I have to say it took a good year to get to this stage.

Guess what I'm doing with all my little my vegetable patches?

Yep, each little patch strings their oinions together within the patch, but don't connect to the potatoes and carrots in the other patches.

In time the onions will grow, as will the carrots and broccoli in their respective patches and can then feed the hungry rabbits in their burrows.

In turn the rabbits will feed the hungry wolves, who go around in packs making money and smoking cigars behind the bike shed!!!...

Fiar,

I know what you mean and to tell the truth I have used so much spam software in the past that I try and avoid it like the plague nowadays. It just never sits right in the gut and ultimately I want a little more security or maybe that should read, longevity in what I do now. If it means going a bit slower then so be it as I think the rewards are greater in the long run.

Of course if a quick buck can be made off of a new BH technique - in and out - then my moral compass may get turned off for a short span but those opportunities don't surface to often these days.

I appreciate the input - I suspect you are not alone in your thinking.

Grizzly said...

Terry,

I fixed your comment - didn't think you wanted the world to know about that account.

It seems, like Fiar and myself that you'd rather take the slow but sure road as well.

I bought an 8 year old domain to avoid the sandbox. Well this was my first ever aged domain purchase and there was a lot I didn't know. Anyway I found out, afterwards it had never been indexed in google.

Well now I have been trying to work a particular niche and I believe that I am in the sandbox. Is there anyway to know for sure? And is there like a checklist for buying aged domains that i can use in the future so I can know what I am getting? Thanks.
