Do you want to make money online?
Then quit being sheep. I just finished looking over a couple of dozen blogs this past week and if I see another post about how to increase your RRS subscribers or how to make your blog "more" reader friendly or how to use "this" plug in or how to get "more" entrecarders to drop a card or "how" to run a contest I will scream!
Stop the madness folks. None of that crap has anything to do with making money online. People are so wrapped up in Web 2.0 that they have never once considered what the results will be if they "do" everything they think they're supposed to do. Guess what - you may or may not get a bunch of bloggers to read your posts.
Apparently this is a goal worth achieving but not once have I seen a post on why anyone would want a bunch of bloggers reading their posts. Never.
The assumption seems to be that this will lead to "success". Even the term success doesn't seem to have a yardstick. When I ask people how any of this "success" produces income I usually get some kind of bullshit answer like "success isn't just measured in dollars" or "success is knowing you have given your readers something valuable" or "success is having a thousand RSS subscribers".
What horseshit.
What a bunch of total noobs.
The fact is everyone of these wannabees "Think" that somehow getting 1000 readers is going to make them money in the long run. Yeah advertisers will line up to spend big bucks on your site because you have 1000 readers. Sure they will - and when none of your readers spend a single dollar they will stop lining up. Oh right, your readers don't spend money on your site but they will suddenly spend money on the advertisers - the same ads they have seen on all the other sites they have subscribed to. Oh what a joke this is.
You know what really pisses me off? I haven't found more than a handful of real "make money online" blogs out there and yet there are thousands of blogs claiming to be in this niche. They think that blogging about blogging is somehow related to making money online. It isn't.
Pay attention!
Quit trying to get readers!
Start optimizing your blogs for search engines.
Pick a niche other than Blogging, Making Money or Personal Diaries.
Spend 10% of your time writing content.
Spend 90% of your time getting keyword targeted backlinks.
I have just told you all you really need to know to make money online.
Yes I have - don't argue with me.
Some of you still want to be famous though - well guess what? I probably have more RSS subscribers than you and I don't try and get them. I don't stumble, digg, zoom, sphinn or run contests or spend a lot of time commenting on other blogs. I don't have a pretty blog nor want one. I also don't spend money on hosting or waste time programing or pissing around with plug ins. I don't do guest posting and I don't have to spend my days socializing with the exception of answering questions related to this one blog.
Here's a little tip - write good useful content and help people when they ask for it and you may find yourself with a few readers.
Have I got my point across yet?
I write articles about things people want answers for, I post them on a blog optimized for the niche people are searching for answers in and then I get a bunch of backlinks to each and every post. This tells Google I am the site with the answers and they send me traffic. None of the traffic consists of bloggers or internet marketers. I funnel the traffic towards an affiliate product or Adsense. They buy something or click an Ad. I make money. Period. I can go months between posts and the traffic and money keeps coming in, day after day, while I work on my putting and short game.
Now I want to show you all a goldmine that hasn't been mined yet.
PopCritics Review
Check out Mike and Jason's "movie review" site called Pop Critics. This site has tons of content, it's updated regularly, it's all original stuff and best of all it's about stuff that people search for. I call it a movie review blog but it has more to offer than just movie reviews. The point I am making is that these two fellows do everything right but are missing one important ingredient - they don't get search traffic. The reason is simple - they haven't got targeted backlinks. If you have an existing blog with lots of content then pay attention because what I am going to tell Mike and Jason applies to your site as well - regardless of the niche.
If I owned PopCritics I would do the following,
Add "Movies|Televison|Books|Music Reviews" to the Blog Title. As it stands right now the search engines will list "PopCritics...reviewing pop culture so you don't have to" in the serp blurb. This will not tell searchers what the blog is about specifically. My addition will.
I would then proceed to use my blog network to send backlinks to the homepage. If I send 100 links to the home page, 10 would use the term "movie reviews" in the anchor text, 10 would use the term "Television Reviews" in the anchor text and so on until I have links for all the main keywords. This will tell Google what the blog is about. Sending links using the term "PopCritics" will only get that term ranked high and no one will search for that keyword. 77,000 people used the search term "Movie Reviews" last month.
Next I would keep each post title to a bare minimum. Right now they use titles that are reader friendly but not search engine friendly. The latest post is called - "Alternate 'I Am Legend' ending hits the web, is it better?".
This should read "I Am Legend - Movie|Book Review".
I would then round up a dozen backlinks targeting the phrase above and point it at the page url of the review. I guarantee that it would rank top 10 quickly on Google .
I would then re-edit every single post on their blog so that the main keyword is used in the post titles (with as few extra words as possible) and dropped into a few H tags in each article. The reader friendly titles currently used can be utilized as sub headers. Then I would round up backlinks for every page on the blog optimized for each pages main keyword.
Now I will put up or shut up.
If Mike and Jason make the changes to the "I Am Legend" post I will get them the backlinks they need and have them on page 1 lickety split.
Here is the current Top 10 listings on Google for "I Am Legend Movie Review".
I have no idea of how many searches are being done for this term but that is not the point - I simply want to show them how to get ranked in the serp's for all their posts and more importantly to get ranked for terms that do get searched - ie. "movie reviews" etc.
Now if some of you have an existing niche I will give you a hand as well but only the first 5 that leave me a comment. (I'd do more but have limited time) Pick one page, edit the post as I described using the main keyword in the post title and a couple of times in your H tags and leave me your page url and keyword in the comments.
It's time for you all to understand that proper backlinks are the key to this whole business - they get you ranked and this is what gets you "real" traffic.
Note: Do not use spam sites - no blogging sites - no make money sites. Real niches with quality content only.
Let's get to it...

The Scourge of Web 2.0
Labels: backlinks, Keywords, PopCritics, SEO
Project Payday - A Legit Method to Make Money at Home
I have included Project Payday on my blog for all of my readers who write in asking if there are any legit online programs that they can use to make some quick money. Project Payday is not a get rich quick scheme - it is more like a work at home job. You don't need a blog or website as it involves getting paid to try out trial offers from online advertisers. There is work to this but you can realistically earn a couple of hundred dollars a day if you want to put in the effort.
I have written several posts about this and suggest you start with this one. Project Payday
Unfortunately Project Payday is only available to American users at this time. Their sister program is still available to users in the US, Canada, UK and Australia. (free to join as well) Affiliate Income Partners
CashCrate is another program similar to Project Payday and they do accept people world wide - it's free to join.
For comparative purposes the stats below reflect my actual earnings with Cashcrate.
A Little Heart to Heart
You have probably figured out by now that you aren't going to find the answer in a $47 ebook or by following your favorite twit on twitter. The fact is many of you are still wondering how this plain free hosted Blogger blog dominates the rankings on the search engines - right? Did you find this site by typing in "make money online" in Google?
If you did then you are halfway to learning the secret to making money online - you need targeted traffic from the search engines (for any niche you pick) and once you have that, you can sell them what they are looking for. Sounds simple and on paper it is - actually dominating the search engines is the hard part. It takes time and you do need to understand keywords and anchor text links. You can spend time on this site and sift through my posts to learn this or you can do yourself a favor and pony up one buck and test drive Court's Keyword Academy Crash Course for a month and learn just why I rank number 1 in the search engines.
This isn't another waste of money or time - just an honest answer for the few of you willing to do the work and who really do want to make a long term sustainable living online. Read my blog from back to front or try a more focused approach with Court - either way you will not be disappointed.
Cheers
Griz

«Oldest ‹Older 1 – 200 of 242 Newer› Newest»You know, all this is great, but what if you don't have a network of blogs at your disposal? Building backlinks is a much more in-depth activity for someone without your resources. You make it sound easy, when it's not really...
-Allen
I am in. I can care less about the social side. I want to make some extra cash. I am still in the learning mode. However, I would love to have you look at either site. The second site is sandboxed. So, I dont know if it will work.
The second, The end goal is politics.. However, I started targeting Political machine ( I dont think it will be a money maker).
http://politicians-uncovered.blogspot.com/
Sandboxed:
http://asthma-asthmatic.blogspot.com/
Correction, it looks I just came out of the sandbox
Allen,
I was going to talk about this point in the post and then thought I would wait and see if anyone was clever enough to ask about it.
The fact is every single person has access to the blog networks being offered. There are several to choose from - backlink solutions, 3waylinks, linkvana and others. Granted I also have my own network of blogs but I also use some of these others.
The real point is that getting backlinks is easy if you want to spend the money. The question is - are you serious about making money online or are you just playing at it. If you are serious then spend the money - if not just use free methods of backlinking until you have the confidence that what you are doing will make money.
My blog is about making money online and I am telling you how to do it. It's up to you how serious you are about it.
You make some very interesting points...however, there is one thing you got slightly wrong.
Well, maybe you didn't and I just don't realize what I'm missing out on, but we DO get a lot of search engine traffic. The days after American Idol, or Lost, our traffic goes nuts because we end up on the first page of Google all the time for those.
An average view on an article each day might be 30 hits. Last week, I had about 300 or so, a lot of it search engine related.
Jason has a ton of AI content, so the days after that, ALL his posts jump up to 60+ hits because of search engines.
Now, here is the big thing for me and that's probably why I wont succeed at making a lot of money online:
I don't like to write stuff that isn't how I'd write. I don't want to post a title that says "I Am Legend - Movie|Book Review".
It doesn't say a single thing about what the article is about and I just can't do it.
I also TRY to put keywords in my posts as much as I can, but I'm not going to lace it with them and ruin my writing style.
Just to say again, we DO land on the first page of Google for a lot of things, just not everything. Sure, my one I Am Legend movie review last year isn't going to help, because I just didn't post much about it.
But we post about stuff like Galactica, Lost, AI, etc., all the time, and we get pretty high for that.
The other thing is that I don't have a "blog network" anyways to pull from. I work 40+ hours a week, I am finishing my degree at UoP, have a wife and possibly kids on the way, and I just can't spend all day doing this.
If I had the time to do this all day, I'd probably have the 100+ blogs, have those AI singer.blogspot stuff.
I wish I could take your advice and do it, but not with Pop Critics. At least, not all of it. I like your thing about the title: Pop Critics: Movie|Television|Book|Music|Reviews.
But do you mean just the homepage or everypage?
Finally...I didn't mean this to sound harsh, but I guess I get frustrated with the whole making money thing. For me personally, I love to write and wont compromise it.
I think I feel like if I geared all my stuff towards search engines, I'd lose REAL readers who could get better stuff eleswhere. As of right now, we have a pretty busy and loyal group of readers, 5-6 of which post over 40 comments a month, a few over 100.
That's what I enjoy.
And I'm just hoping that somehow, we can grow like a quality site, like io9, or SlashFilm, etc., and advertisers will want to pay us to promote their movies, shows, etc., because they know our readers listen to what we say.
Thanks for the advice though...I just...don't think I can do it for Pop Critics.
Now, if I suddenly had time on my hands, I'd be jumping all over the niche blogging stuff and have 50+ blogs in a few months. I know I could do it.
Dennis,
Your on the list - just tell me which site.
Worry about the money makers later - let's just get you traffic for now. are people searching for "Political Machine"?
hi,
Thank you again for a great post.
I have been working on a site on weight loss pills.
Please do have a look at it:
bestweight-losspills.blogspot.com/
keywords targetted:
best weight loss pills
fat burning pills
Grizz,
From what I can tell people are not searching for political machine. The political machine was my very first blog and I started it in December 07 and I didn't understand about researching keywords.
I want to concentrate on the Asthma blog. I think this will make me money.
I am getting ready to post another article to the Asthma blog. I am rewriting it before I post it.
Like everyone else I would be happy to make enough cash to get out of debt from college and starting a new family.
As soon as I start making money I will invest in some of the software such as SEO elite to help me target the correct keywords.
By the way.. The wife called and said do a blog on Patrick Swayze. He has cancer in his pancreas
I am more than happy to get help from you. I can't stand this social network crap. Any input would be appreciated.
http://free-fishing-games.blogspot.com
http://onlinegamesplay4free.blogspot.com/
Thanks
James
It's good to know that you spend so much time getting backlinks. I was wondering if it was just me... At the moment I'm just getting about 6 snippets per page listed with backlinksolutions but I'll try and up that to 10.
http://livingoffdividends.com
wow am I already too late? lol.
i'd love to be in if i could.
anyway, the site http://get-better-sleep.blogspot.com does it qualify?
The keyword is "how to get better sleep".
many thanks if you could help me :D but if i'm already too late it's okay i understand that you're very busy.
cheers.
Hi Griz,
I started reading your blog fron the past few weeks. Before starting this i tried many tricks to make money online but ended up with nothin even with adwords. but after started reading your blog i started getting cofidence about this make money online thing.
Intially i started with make meony online blog but really it's not worth making such blogs, so i started a blog on Indain Premier league which i found would be a hot tpoic in cricket world. Hope you'll like my Blog.
my url for Indian Premier League.
http://premierleague-cricket.blogspot.com
As this is a recently introduced league i directly targeted the main Keyword
Mike,
I completely understand where you are coming from but I may have misled you. I figured you get traffic based on the fact that Google likes fresh content and it doesn't surprise me that you rank well for American Idol and such but the question is - do you stay ranked high or do you slip back in the serp's after a day or two? My Asia'h blog has not been updated in two weeks and still ranks number 2 and I'm getting 300 plus visitors a day to it. 30 hits or 60 hits is good but you can get much more and make it permanent.
The real point I wanted to make about your site is that it could and should rank on top of the serp's permanently for the main keywords - especially "Movie Reviews". This will give you a huge slice of 70,000 visits a month which can lead to making some decent cash and because your site is quality you will increase your readership a lot.
I realize you have a problem with writing post titles as I mentioned but you should consider it.
"I Am Legend - Movie|Book Review" will tell Google what you are about. If all your posts use specific keywords like this you will start ranking for those important terms and eventually (with backlinks) get to page 1 for those terms.
Also your reader friendly title should still be used right under the post title. Your readers will still know exactly what the post is about.
The blurb in the serp's will have both Title and sub title in it which is perfect for capturing peoples attention as they choose from the ten listed sites.
I do not recommend keyword stuffing - your posts are fine the way they are - just use the main keywords a couple of times in bold as a header for a paragraph. You don't have to lace the posts with keywords.
Let me ask you - do you think my posts are contrived or compromised. I like to write as well and think I'm pretty good at it. I know what you think I mean by using keywords but you can use them effectively without compromising your writing style. The post above is perfectly optimized for a half dozen keywords and most readers can't guess which keywords. How well do you think this post will rank for the term "PopCritics"?
As far as a blog network goes see my comment above to Allen - you guys have the perfect site to spend a few bucks on and make it work. I would.
Something I should clarify. I own 4 businesses in the real world (a hotel, a fishing Lodge, a Restaurant and a construction company) with 35 employees - I work 80 hours a week - I have 200 plus blogs - I have a wife and two young daughters and I don't spend all day doing this - I work smart - I let the search engines make me money. The suggestions I am making will not take up any more time than you are already putting into this and eventually you will get permanent traffic from Google for the main keywords and you won't have to post as much or get as many backlinks. You will have more time on your hands - not less.
Pop Critics: Movie|Television|Book|Music|Reviews.
You want this title to show up on every page of your blog - right up top in the browser page title. Your last post shows up as
"American Idol 2008 - Top 8 Women Performances | Pop Critics"
I would have it read
"Pop Critics Movie|Television|Book|Music|Reviews - American Idol 2008 - Top 8 Women Performances"
This way every post on your blog will reinforce your authority for the "review" terms that will bring in the most traffic.
Mike, I gear all my writing towards the search engines AND my readers and I don't think I will lose them to better stuff elsewhere. You have it in your mind that I am suggesting you turn your blog into some kind of keyword stuffed spam blog - not at all - just optimize it with the few tweaks I've mentioned and start taking "real" advantage of the search engines.
Imagine the advertising dollars you could have with 70,000 visitors a month and that's just for 1 term. You really do have a goldmine Mike and it wouldn't take a lot to start mining it. What do you think your blog would sell for if you dominated the serp's for the keywords mentioned?
I hate seeing the amount of work you two put into this without having a snowballs chance in hell of dominating a market you have every right to dominate.
I'll make you another offer - change the blog title and I will see if I can't get you on page 1 of movie reviews just to see if you like the traffic. I am as stubborn as you. Let me know.
Note: I want to nip something in the bud right away before some jerk brings it up.
I am not trying to sell people on joining blog networks. Many of you know me and have found out that I really don't try and make money off of my readers. I have turned down a lot of offers from people and prefer to lend a hand for free. I don't need money - I like it as much as anyone but I don't need it. I am simply telling you how things are done online by the big boys you are competing with.
If you have a site like Mike's then I have no qualms about telling you to spend a few bucks. If you are still testing the waters then save your cash until you have the confidence to take on a niche full speed ahead.
Hi Griz,
you are really a legend in this niche marketing. I searched for this kind off conetent for a long time and came across many sites, but none of them are worthy. You are the only unselfish guy in this world who helped us. Without your stuff i would have stopped thinkin about thia making money online thing.
MD,
You are on the list.
Dennis,
Let me know the asthma keyword you want targeted and that's a shame about Swayze - Pancreatic Cancer is the worst.
James,
You are on the list - which site and shall I suggest a keyword?
April,
Can you explain that a little better for me - I may have some tips for you but not sure what you meant.
Adventures in Money Making,
Your on the list but I need a keyword.
Hch,
You are on the list too but your keyword sucks - I will come up with a better one.
Aravind,
You squeeked in too and your niche and keyword is ideal.
As far as Google, I think we stay up there...I mean, it's only been a few weeks at Pop Critics, but on A Mike Life, i had a Conan O'Brien post that stayed #1 for months and in a span of a week I got like 10,000+ hits on it because of Late NIght returning.
So whatever I was doing there, I was doing here...of course, Conan Obrien Beard wasn't hugely talked about online, so I sort of owned it.
You suggest:
Pop Critics Movie|Television|Book|Music|Reviews - American Idol 2008 - Top 8 Women Performances
Does that not look bad to people on search engines? Like we are trying to spam our titles? Would this not be more effective or at least, easier on the eyes?
American Idol 2008 - Top 8 Women Performances - Pop Critics Movie|Television|Book|Music|Reviews
You said the reader friendly post title appears under the real one, but that is sort of harder on our Theme I think...plus my downside is that I love titles.
Maybe we need to change things up, to have some sort of secondary title up there...I dunno. Maybe it will help, and not look too spammy?
Secondly, you say you work 80 hours a week, lol...I have no desire to do that :)
I think Jason and I want to take you up on the I Am Legend deal...so I just have to change the title and that's it?
You are starting to make me rethink things...maybe this can work with out style more than I believe.
BTW Grizz, I don't think your content is that way at all...I think when I think Keyword stuffing, I think things like using phrases over and over and it tends to look funny, at least, the way I've seen it explained.
ON another note, you say your blog gets 300 hits a day...and I said 30 or whatever...I just mean one post, the site itself is finally getting indexed since our start two weeks ago tomorrow, so it's on the uprise.
Okay - that's enough niches for now.
If things go well I will probably do this more often. Now I have some work to do...
oh btw, I'm ranking number ten for the term "popcritics" - not bad for a post that wasn't targeted at it...
Now do I go for top spot - hehe.
(kidding Mike)
the keyword for livingoffdividends.com is "investing"
thought i'd just quickly submit the url just in case someone beat me to the finish!
I'm looking at http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com - Do you know whether the results for daily searches or monthly?
Thanks for all your help. I'm doing a lot of what you're talking about, but without really understanding how it all fits in together.
At least we rank #1 for Pop Critics! :)
how do you run 4 different businesses and 200 blogs?
what the hell am i missing?
I'll be back later to answer all the latest comments...
Keep sending them, later folks
Grizz,
I guess I am kind of lost. My keyword was "Asthma" however, I had been targeting long tails to try to get there. My next target was going to be "asthma treatment"
I was using Wordtracker to get my keywords. However, maybe I have been approaching this wrong? Your the expert you would have to tell me. Here's the stats from the free WordTracker I was using.
8,992 total searches
2603 asthma
233 asthma treatment
222 asthma specialist in virginia
220 asthma symptoms
219 chronic medical conditions asthma
215 asthma medicine
215 bi polar parents and children with asthma
BTW. Thanks for offering and taking the to help. Like everyone else said you are generous.
I'm trying to be real and at the same time use your techniques with
http://fix-any-thing.blogspot.com
I would never even have a blog if it wasn't for your advice.
I don't expect much to happen for a few months until I get it out there with backlinks.
I put one of the items from the blog for sale on craigslist and the keyword came up on page one with google. I'm gonna try adding a backlink to the blog in my next craigslist post. What do you think?
Grizz,
I do have you beat on one thing. I have to deal with 4 girls( 3 daughters)Yikes... I think it's Gods personal joke from being so promiscuous in my younger days.
Mike, you might be ranking number 1 for 'pop critics', but except for you no one else is searching for that term!
I searched for it! Probably doesn't count.
Grizz,
I've followed most of your site to the letter and must say after 3 months im finally starting to see some results. If its not too late I would love it if you would look over my site http://flyfishingforbeginners.blogspot.com
On a side note ive done alot of research on your methods and must say you have quite an impressive portfolio of sites out there.
Sorry Grizzly, what I mean is that when I want to get backlinks for my latest article, I write 6 paragraphs for submitting to the BLS network.
You can get an idea here:-
http://technorati.com/blogs/www.finerliving.net?reactions
Thanks
April
Shoot! It looks like I missed the cut. Thanks for the article, as well as all the other ones...I've just about read your whole blog even though this is the first time I'm speaking up.
If you do intend on doing this again, is it possible to get on the waiting list?
Anyway, I've been not caring more and more about readership on my blogging blog, and am focusing on experimenting with and creating niche sites...I made more money on a 10-post blogspot niche blog that took a few days to research and setup than I've made on my blogging blog that's nearly 5 months old.
Well, thanks again...
I think I know which blog you may have run across via Blogging Zoom that may have set you off (initials AP). I thought it was a parody blog, with it's over-the-top praise of John Chow and forth, at first but I think it is actually serious!
As for link building, I'm leaning in the direction of article marketing since I've seen some good results with this so far. However, further suggestions that don't break the budget would be welcome.
Mike,
The more I've thought about it the more I think you should use my title for the home page and use your post title first on the rest of the pages. Your home page will be the page that ends up ranking on page 1 for Movie Reviews and needs the main keywords in the title in order to have a chance. Using your reverse system will give you're individual posts a chance to rank on top for their keywords. I do it differently on this blog as I want every page to rank for my main keywords and not so much for the post keywords. You will not want to do this.
I have to admit you would have a better idea of what you can and can't do with your theme - I sometimes forget that not everyone uses Blogger. lol. Do what you feel is right with the titles but try and get the home page laid out as I describe. That's the page I want to concentrate on for serp ranking but without those terms in the title you will never make page 1.
I have no desire to work 80 hours either but I had to pick businesses that are open 24/7 - kinda sucks.
I checked the I Am Legend serp and if you cut it down to just that term for the post title you shouldn't have a problem. All the top ranking sites for the movie only use "I Am Legend" in their post title. Don't worry Google will display your original title (now a subheader at the very top of your post) in the serp blurb so folks will still see it and know what the post is about.
I have convinced myself that you guys should rank on page 1 for movie reviews so I will start targeting your site whether you want me to or not. (Even if you don't change the home page - ha.) This could be fun and I like a good challenge.
Glad you understand what I mean about keywords and how to use them - stuffing like you described isn't necessary and I would never do that - your posts should not read any different than they do now - just tweaked a bit in the right places.
Anyhow let's see what happens.
Adventures,
"investing" - noted.
Been a while since I used the wordtracker freebie but most programs give you the monthly total for searches.
Mike,
You said;
"At least we rank #1 for Pop Critics! :)"
hmmmm... that sounds like a challenge..
Grizz,
Whatever you do, keep us posted on how that turns out! It (the movie review site) certainly sounds like it will be a great case study for your methods...
-Allen
Grizz,
So you still want me to change the title to "I am Legend - Movie|Book Review" ?
And please don't steal popcritics from us :) haha....
Although like someone said, no one is searching for that.
Adventures,
I have great staff and let them do their jobs while they think I'm in my office watching porn on the internet - lol. Little do they know...
Dennis,
I ran my own search and "Asthma Treatments" is second in searches to the main keyword "Asthma". This would be a good choice and my stats give it about 4400 searches a month on yahoo - so double that at least for Google.
"Asthma Medicine" ranks third with 4000 searches.
This only highlights the discrepancies you get in doing keyword searches which is why I don't put a lot of stock into the actual numbers given but rather use the position and type of keywords generated to pick a likely target.
Enhancer,
Give me a keyword and I will slide you in as well.
Absolutely get a backlink from your next craigslist post - use your keyword and nothing else in the link.
Okay, changed the homepage title...what do you think?
I'm curious as to what is better..."TV" or "Television" ?
My New Amsterdam post has the thing you suggested: Television|Reviews
Dennis,
Don't get me started on the three aliens I live with - and the girls aren't even teens yet! I am told this will be a blessing when they get there...
I commiserate with you.
(Ladies - I love them dearly but don't have a clue how they work and man they talk a lot - never stops - talk talk talk...)
(I nod a lot)
:-)
Jason,
No... you don't count. For those who don't know, Jason is the other half of PopCritics. So who's carrying who guys? Lol.
Gotafish,
Well aren't you smooth - alright I will slip you in as well.
Keyword? "flyfishing for beginners" is probably a good start.
April,
Your linking looks good (different keywords and different pages) - don't increase your link rate though - 6 is plenty. You don't want or need too many too fast. Slow and steady...
Don't develop a pattern though - a few links today - none tomorrow - one the day after etc. It's not uncommon for new posts to get a little burst of links right away and then have them tail off until the next post. Always try to keep things natural.
How are your keywords ranking out of curiosity?
Jblu,
Anyone who has suffered through reading all my posts deserves a hand as well.
Let me know your url and keyword.
Frank,
Yeah I know the blog you mention but frankly (pardon the pun) I have seen so much web 2.0 crap about how to make money that I gag every time I see one.
Article marketing certainly works but is slow. When you are ready to take the plunge your site is just like Mike and Jason's - lots of original content and can be optimized in the same way. You just have to determine what your main keyword is as you cover such a huge spectrum. You will likely have a huge readership regardless of SEO but the search traffic can do wonders for your bottom line.
Allen,
I agree it is a great case study and I will keep you posted.
Mike,
Ideally change it to just "I Am Legend" as that is what the top ranked sites are using. In this case less is better. I can try with it as is but I don't think it will get to the top.
Your choice though.
"PopCritics" is safe but I might try and bump ahead of BZ just to ruffle Vic up a bit. lol.
Okay which one of you bozos runs this scraper site;
check out http://makemoneymeme.com/?p=271
They gave me the link but if you are going to scrape don't use the whole bloody post - Google will flag you big time. Snippets people snippets!
Damn now I am telling scrapers how to steal my stuff...
Grizz,
I got an error on my earlier comment, so if it didn't come through, here we go again...
I completely agree with you on this one. I am trying to rein myself in from reading other blogs that don't have useful info on them about the true ways to make money online.
As for backlinks, I am using BMD, but what else is there? How do you get so many backlinks? Comments? Tagging with BZ? Any help here would be great as I'm not sure what is the best way to get them.
Elliott @ blogexplosion.net
Elliot,
Thanks for stopping in. We haven't chatted in a bit so it's nice to hear from you.
You mention some of the slow, mostly free methods and while they will work eventually you should also use articles, yahoo answers and the social sites for links.
I get my links using my existing blogs and some paid networks which I mentioned above and don't want to mention too many times as I don't want to rank for them. lol.
The less attention to some things the better.
sI can't believe they stole your whole post. That is laziness at best. As far as nodding, I understand your tactic. I have a 5year old that talks..talks..talks.. The 4 month old is already trying to talk. Either way, I will get started on the article for "Asthma treatments"
Damn , I missed the cut, but that was great information all the same. One tiny weeny request maybe?
Blog gigs seems to do quite well with the keywords "wordpress themes" and most of my post with these word in it ranks quite well.
Any suggestion on how I can manipulate further?
Yea, i understand a blog like mine really sucks when it comes to competing for serps position. LOL. but like you said, I take it as a challenge.
Thanks!
What a breath of fresh air. I might sometimes fall into wantint to increase my RSS and other things, but i know that the only way to make money is to get people to pay me. or get search engine clicks to pay me some affiliate commissions. i see that you're doing payday loan stuff. great commissions. Keep it up buddy! and please use the word "horseshit" more often in your posts.
Grizz,
Wasn't trying to be smooth. It's just rare to find a website talking about making money that is actually practicing what it preaches. I'm an IT guy with lots of time on hand when things aren't broke so I do lots of research :)
Yes fly fishing for beginners was the keyword I was after. I have started focusing on fly fishing gear lately as it appears to pay more per click.
What a Great Post!
So much passion comes across in the wording. Fabulous!
Lots of great information here.
Thanks
Sorry I was so late in posting I just got home from a 16 hr work day.
Thanks again Grizz.
Griz,
What have you created here? You have 57 comments already! I love how you "say it like it is" in this post. You almost sounded like Vic...LOL.
I have been wondering what's going on with you. I posted in here and sent an email and hadn't heard back. Now I know :)
Mike
if the scrappers put the whole post in blockquote and said that was taken from xyz site, would google still penalize them?
are all your sites hosted on blogger?
Thanks Grizzly. My url is:
http://minimalmakeup.com (just set it up yesterday actually and isn't yet indexed)
my main target keywords are:
mineral makeup
esca makeup
Griz,
Also, you had mentioned a time-frame for your adsense blogs. I don't remember what it was.
I have several now that are at the two month mark and there is just a trickle of clicks. Is this normal, or do I accept I did a poor job in niche selection?
Thanks,
Mike
Grizz, what a freaking fantastic post, watch for me on a SERP near you!
I've never had time to do all this online socializing. I joined the Entrecard and started to realize that after the first couple rounds of dropping on sites, everything started to look the same.
In fact, I gave it a rest. The obsessive-compulsive posts about how to get RSS readers, Entrecard drops and contests were too much. I was going to write a post about it on my blog until I realized that I'd only be adding to the madness and no one would read it anyways.
I totally agree - none of these equals making money. I make more money from my regular websites than I do from my blog with a whole lot less traffic. For one thing, psychotic Entrecard droppers hurt a blog's Adsense CTR. So, while your blog may be "popular" due to increased traffic, this bounced traffic results in zilch.
They don't stick around long enough to click on an ad leave alone read anything or become interested in any product or service you might be promoting.
Mike,
The new Title is perfect and TV will be fine as Google treats both terms TV and Television as the same.
You should start seeing links today but I will go slow - the Legend post will be first and then I will take on your home page over the next month or so. Too many links too fast is not good.
The new Amsterdam post title is ideal and I suggest using that method when you feel it fits - I see what you mean by your theme makes it hard to use a more descriptive subheader. Have you thought of using Blogger? (Kidding)
Dennis,
Let me know when the article is posted.
Hey Costa,
Nice to see you - you've been laying low it seems.
You might want to change your blog title as well. you currently use...
"The Secrets of Writing a Good Blog"
This is reader friendly but it is not a term a lot of people search for so ranking well for the phrase isn't really helpful.
A Title like...
"Wordpress Themes|How to Blog|Writing Tips"
would get you ranking for several terms that are searched for. Always use the term that you most want traffic for at the beginning of your blog title. You can switch the terms around or add different keywords but you can see how this kind of title will get you ranked for better keywords.
btw - I like the new theme. I see you have been busy.
Bloggernoob,
I must admit I was going to use the term "hockey pucks" instead of horseshit but only Canadian prairie folk would have got the connotation.
I can see why my bud Vic let's loose the odd curse (ha) as it is very cathartic.
Thanks for dropping in and I had a good laugh reading your last post.
Gotafish,
I knew you weren't trying to be smooth - I was just being a smart ass. (I have been told my sense of humor should be kept to myself.)
I happen to have several sites targeted at the fly fishing crowd and you are right - there are some decent clicks to be had. Of course I am going to be helping you compete with me in this niche - what have I got myself into... ha.
Denise,
Passion - what a nice way to put it. My wife uses terms not quite so flattering..
A 16 hr day too huh - let me guess - the hospitality industry?
Thanks for dropping in Denise.
Hey Mike,
Nobody can sound like Vic - it's an art form with him. lol
Mike did you read all 120 comments on the last post? I think I answered your last question somewhere in there but if I have missed you again please post it here.
Yes my inbox is now scaring me - I dread opening it each morning.
That I Am Legend post may be useless now since the video was taken down, but up to you if you still want to link to it :)
Adventures,
I had mentioned in the last posts marathon comment section that the jury is still out as to how Google treats scrapers - generally speaking they seem to get away with stealing snippets but I haven't seen many sites that steal entire posts get any ranking though I could be wrong. The fact is as long as they send me the link I don't really care. They will never outrank me in the serp's so they are wasting their time.
Nope, not all my sites are on Blogger - I have several online identities that use different platforms but I must admit that Blogger has become my main focal point as it is by far the easiest and fastest platform for me to do what I do.
Jblu,
Got it and added you to the list. Lets see if we can't speed up your indexing.
Makeup huh, this will be an area I have not ventured into before other than wading through it trying to find the bathroom sink at home - sounds interesting.
Mike,
I have started testing Linkvana to see how effective it is. I know you use it for backlinks so it's possible that it might not be as good as some of the other networks. I should find out soon enough. Keep in mind that niche and keyword selection (competition) will have a lot to do with how fast your traffic starts flowing. Of course if you have targeted keywords that aren't being searched for no amount of time will help.
Fantasy Baseball news, (Is that you Don :-))
Thanks and I will keep an eye out - I watch the serp's like a hawk!
Griz,
You created this monster:) You can easily turn this into a "paid" consulting service and I'm sure many of us would use the service. You have gone above and beyond being helpful for people in here. I hope your readers appreciate it like I do.
I'll go back and look at the last post for your answer to my last question.
Yeah...keep me posted on LV and if you suggest I use another backlink service I will do it asap, so don't be shy to let me know asap, as I really want these new blogs to make money.
Thanks,
Mike
Madwahm,
I find entrecard is fine for finding new blogs and socializing with friends but the people who think it is some kind of useful traffic producer are seriously deluded. It's mostly noobs using it and the traffic is nothing more than bloggers chasing bloggers - none spend money, few read posts and nothing about the system will help someone establish real traffic for the long term. The worst thing about it is that it has created a small group of noobs who think that they are suddenly traffic experts because they have figured out how to game entrecard and think this is an accomplishment of some usefulness.
People are loosing interest in it already and it is doomed just like all the banner exchange programs that preceded it - the Entrenoobs are just to new to know this yet.
Mike O,
I noticed the video was down but that's no reason not to target the page - perfect bait for funneling the readers elsewhere on your blog. If you have something else that they might be interested in just stick a link under the Video.
Anyway I have already sent some links...
Mike P,
I have much more sinister plan than a paid consulting service - once I gain all your trust I will slap an ebook on here promising the world and slip off to enjoy my wealth on a beach in Mexico while everyone tries to figure out why I just sold them a book containing nothing but comments from this blog...
Let me get the skinny on LV before you do anything else - I already don't like a few things about it but more from a procedure/control perspective than anything else - if it works then my complaints are minor. I will let you know what I think once I see how effective it is.
Grizz,
I am working on my article right now. I have a couple of questions.
The keyword is "asthma treatments"
Will the following phrases help or work with my keyword:
"Treating Asthma" "Asthma treated" and "treatment of asthma"
For instance I googled "asthma treatments" and I found very little. However, when I searched for "treating asthma" I received more returns from my search? Thanks again,
Dennis,
As I often say - the more related terms you use in a post the better. Because G uses LSI this adds credibility to your main keywords - this is the whole concept behind why I write long rambling posts - I want Google to index me for tons of terms - not just the main keyword.
In relation to the terms you listed you should know that G will likely treat them all as the same term - ie. they have the same meaning. Throw in different keywords like "breathing difficulties", "inhalers", "allergies" etc. The more related keywords G picks up the more trust it has that your site is legit. Never stuff a post with the exact same term over and over.
hey griz,
i remember that on your post a few months ago (the death of do-follow) you mentioned that blogger nofollowed all comments
however there are plenty of other blog networks which has dofollow enabled comments
are they a good way to get backlinks? I don't mean by spam - i mean by actually writing a good meaningful comment on a RELEVANT blog post and *casually* slipping in a targeted backlink or two.
Hch,
This is strictly my personal opinion and others will argue with me but from the results I have seen - do follow comments do not turn up very often in the credited links section of webmaster tools. Now G does not show all the links but my guess is that the algorithm seriously discounts links coming from comments.
My hunch is based on a few reasons.
The links are not given by the website owner and should not be considered a vote for the linked site - Google knows this as do all of us.
Moreover these links are a huge target of spammers and G goes to great lengths to eliminate links that try and manipulate their search rankings. I would have to think that they just ignore comment links altogether as they are not the kind of links that G would find useful for indexing purposes - think about it this way, should someone rank on top of the serp's just because they comment more on other sites than anyone else in their niche - even if the comments are quality? No they shouldn't - commenting doesn't mean your site is a quality site or an authority.
The fact that Blogger is no-follow can be taken as a hint that Google doesn't want comments to count in the algorithm - why else would they make it the default.
Just my hunch but others are welcome to prove me wrong.
Having said that I am not saying that people should stop commenting - it should be used for what it is designed to do - an exchange of information and opinions that add to the overall quality of a post. The comments on this blog are a perfect example of what commenting should be all about. I comment because I want to and have something to say - not for links or any other reason and I wish everyone had the same attitude.
Good question Hch and I would love to hear what others think about this - has anyone seen a real benefit using do-follow comments?
Hi Griz,
If commenting is not the tool then getting free backlinks will be really tuff and almost impossible except through this article site but how many times should we have to rewrite an article to submit it.
I don't know if do follows help or not. However, when I first started my political blog. I made a comment to an article I disagreed with at the http://liberalcollegekid.com/ which was is a PR5 site.
This was one of the first things I noticed in my stats. However, being a noob. I don't know if it affected my site. The only thing I can say is commenting on political forums and doing articles I received a PR 2 in less than 3 months. Again, being a noob I don't know if this was a factor or if it is common to get this status using Grizz's techniques?
I would have to leave up to Grizz to analyze my site to see if it was a factor or if my effort is the status quo for original content. that's my 2 cents
The last backlink post you wrote mentioned Propellar (sp?), GoArticles, and a couple of other free ones and then talked about paying for backlinks in the rest of the post.
I am not at the point where I want to pay for anything yet and am hoping that you will do another post on getting backlinks for all of us who are not at your level. Is spinning articles and submitting them to article directories the only option we have if commenting does no good? Thanks Griz.
Grizz,
I e-mailed you earlier asking you to look at a practice blog I set up for keyword content and relevance. I have not as yet received a reply. Please take a look and let me know by e-mail or blog.Thanks. healthyeatingdietessentails.blogspot.com
Are there any free tools to know how many backlinks we have
Wow Grizz,
Your comments on this one are several posts in and of themselves! I haven't had a chance to read through them all, but I will. If you have answered this already then please ignore. You say that you have a successful network of 200+ blogs. Just wondering how long you have been doing this blogging thing and how long it takes to build such a strong blog base?
Ok, I just changed my home page to read "Political Humor | Satire | Parody | Commentary| Conservative Politics | Radioactive Liberty" The individual posts read "(Post title) | Political Humor by Radioactive Liberty"
Is this a good way to do it?
I left a comment earlier, or at least I thought I did. Did it just not get released yet, or did it not go through in the first place? My connection at work is awful, so it's possible it never got through.
Here's my understanding of duplicate content. Keep in mind I could be way off here. I am not an expert.
From what I understand, all content on the page counts. This means header, sidebar footer, and post. This is the cause of the duplicate content many get slapped with. They have so much crap in their sidebars and footers that their posts need to be 1200 words to beat the dupe content in the page layout.
As far as G knows, there's almost no unique content on any given page.
Now, scrapers. If what I said before is true, then having a post, plus comments, plus your page layout should be enough to compete with having a scraper take your post, because they don't have your page layout and they most certainly don't have your comments.
If my understanding is correct, then getting comments is very important, unless you write long, rambling posts. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
You might even want to package those comments into an ebook. ;)
Overall, practice solid backlink building and the other SEO practices Grizz talks about, and don't worry about duplicate content so much. Just try things out and if they don't work, then try something else.
Sorry if this is a second post. I tried to submit earlier and it timed out.
My article is out there. I will continue to rewrite my article and submit it as usual. Let me know if you want me to change anything.
I was having problems putting H1 tags in my post. It kept hiding my title. However, I did get an h2 tags in my second line. Thanks again Grizz
I could not help noticing your Asian Girls ads from Google. I guess we need to watch what keywords we chose. :-)
I guess you owe this to your Asia'h Epperson posts.
DennisJr. I see Adsense on your site, but don't see a privacy policy, like the TOS demands now. I wonder if that could have to do with it.
Thanks for reminder Fiar! I actually had it drafted but had forgot to post it.
Aravind, Dennis, Bruce (DJN) and everyone else concerned about backlinks,
I just wrote a huge rambling answer regarding backlinks and when I posted it Blogger spazzed out and ate it and I forgot to copy it first - pissed me off big time and I don't have the will or time to rewrite the whole damn thing so I'll keep this brief.
Backlinking is not easy unless you pay for it. The best free methods are articles and social media sites that let you use your keyword in your anchor text. If a do-follow blog let's you use your keyword then do it - at worst G will just ignore it and at best it may give you a little juice.
I will write a new post about this issue when I get a few moments but I have been giving some thought to a system in which we can all help each other. Nothing very structured yet but thought I would throw this out to you all. We all need backlinks and we could all help each other get them - and good keyword anchored text links not the crappy ones. If we set up a Co-op of some kind is this something that would interest all of you and moreover anybody have any ideas about how to do it. I am not a programmer but some of you may be or we can always find one. The point is give some thought to how we might structure a system that would allow all of us to get backlinks from each other while keeping it under the radar. 575 readers should be enough to get something going. That's a lot of blogs and websites - more than enough to help everyone in the rankings.
Just a thought and any feedback you have would be welcome. I have a few ideas but would like some input.
Oh and one more thing - 100 comments and um er ahhhh - 12 Zooms! You bunch of... la di da di di da. ( not that I care about such things or anything)
Anonymous,
did you misspell your URL?
healthyeatingdietessentails.blogspot.com
Blogger says this doesn't exist.
Get back to me and lease leave a name - I hate talking to anonymous. lol
Aravind,
There are lot's of free backlink checking tools but I have forgotten most of them. Both Google and Yahoo will show you a lot of them and for more you can Google
"Free backlink checker tools",
Sorry I don't have time to search my files for some of the ones I used to use.
Hi Neena,
About 2 years for the blogs and a few years before that using websites/mini sites.
Only 25 of the blogs require a lot of attention though and this one takes up most of my time - by far! No surprise there as I haven't had to answer a 100 comments on all the other sites combined. lol
Fiar,
Yup your titles look good but did you do a search listing to see what the most searched keywords are in your niche? Is Political Humor the most searched term?
Aside from that the layout is perfect - just make sure your top keyword is placed at the beginning.
I have a domain that is 6 years old. However, it's my last name. Nothing is on it except the beginning of a wordpress blog. If anyone has an idea how this site could be used for I would gladly help people out. www.theseeleys.com
Maybe make the site similiar to www.nothing.com. In which case I had followed links to a blogspot blog with high PR.
Friar again,
Nicely worded advice re: duplicate content. You may fill in anytime you wish. (This applies to everyone - no need to wait for me if you have an answer - if you are wrong I will just humiliate you publicly and make you read John Chow's fine dining posts)
btw - Love your site and the little humor community you and Lord Likely inhabit. I shall be returning often.
Dennis,
The H2 tags will work just fine. I will begin working on all the links as soon as I finish with the comments and when I get 50 zooms! Ha - kidding folks.
Denise,
You noticed the lovely young lasses did you? Yup - the Asia'h post brought them on and I was going to remove the ad until I started getting $0.97 clicks from it - about $20 so far and since no one has complained I figured what the hell. Makes me wonder about some of my readers though...
Dennis,
I wouldn't worry about the Google visit but Fiar is right - get the privacy policy up.
Thanks Fiar - quick thinking.
You are right, it is total bullshit but what if they dont have much experience in seo. Maybe they want to do what they can now to make money online and over time they will eventually develop the skills to target the search engines. But for now, they should try to do what they can.
But either way you provided some good advice.
Hehe yep makeup...it's something I know a little something about and will probably never stop using, so I figured it would be a good idea to attempt to turn a profit from it.
Your co-op idea sounds interesting, and I'd like to hear more about it.
Thanks again =)
(My internet connection is acting up and causing the page to time out continuously, so if I posted duplicate comments, sorry...)
i have a question about the privacy policy.
Do I have to respect people's privacy?
how about a policy which says
"I don't expect you to respect my privacy so you shouldn't expect that from me either!
If you want privacy, get off the damn internet and disconnect your phone."
I'm just curious. Seems like having a privacy policy is completely pointless and of no use whatsoever.
hey griz,
yeah it's a real bummer when blogger eats up a nice comment or post. Happened to me once on some thousand word entry, it was all nicely done and when i clicked submit it just evaporated.
spent a few days fuming before i got myself to rewrite the entire thing.
anyway, you said my keyword sucks. what keywords should i target? Just tell me the changes i need to make and I will get to it.
p.s. sorry if this is a double post, blogger is acting up on me by freezing when i click submit.
i took a look at a few of the backlink solutions websites that you posted long ago (on your post on backlink solutions) and it seems like they're just full of scrambled content which is totally unrelated.
for example, you mentioned the site
http://www.dc561.org/ (which is from backlink solutions). It's loaded with plenty of irrelevant content and backlinks
my question is, how do such sites get their pagerank and keyword authority? Cause if the people at backlink solutions can do it, then maybe anyone can set up such networks to get backlinks for themselves for free...
my second question is, since all blogger blogs have the same ip, then linking to other blogs won't pass link juice? am i wrong?
Does your LinkMetro tactic still work for backlinks or are you no longer recommending that?
Failure Blogger,
Unfortunately what they are doing won't make money now or later and they are better off to learn SEO right from the get go.
Living off dividends,
Google is just trying to weed out the spammers by forcing people to have a contact form more or less - I'm afraid if you want to use adsense then a privacy policy it is...
Of course if you're not using adsense then I kinda' like your advice. ha
Hi Grizz
Your mention of a backlink co-op has had me thinking furiously and I'm keen to have a go at setting something up. I've been jotting down ideas about it.
So I'll email you off-line about some of my ideas and see if what I'm thinking is workable.
Talk soon
Damien
Hch,
The keywords below all have better search numbers than what you have chosen. Work these into your blog and posts.
"sleeping", "sleep disorders", "Insomnia" and "snoring"
All the networks like backlink solutions use sites similar to what you have seen. They buy used domains with PR and then put them up to use for snippet posts. They aren't much to look at and function like a snippet directory. I'm sure G will find a way to ignore them eventually but they work like a charm now as they get indexed the same way sites like Blogging Zoom does. They are simply a collection of mostly unrelated snippets that pass links on - Blogging Zoom is a collection of mostly unrelated snippets that doesn't pass links.
They aren't much for getting a lot of PR but they generate a ton of keyword authority and fast - it takes weeks and months to generate a dozen properly anchored backlinks using the free methods - BS will get you that many in an hour (this would be stupid though).
The downside is that they don't retain their PR past 1 or 2 updates as they give out links but have few incoming links to maintain their PR. As you said, anyone could set up a network like this but it would cost a few bucks to buy all the PR sites to get it started.
Regarding your last question about duplicate IP's; You can get away with a handful of links coming from one IP like blogspot.coms or any other address but G has said (Matt Cutts) that you don't want too many coming from one source or it will be seen as a link farm. Blogger had a huge problem with link farms in the past. The Algorithm will now flag any site with an abundant supply of duplicate IP links. So to answer your question you can link a few blogspot blogs to your main blog but not too many.
Denise,
My you have been prowling down in the dungeons to find that post. As a matter of fact it does still work - they have yet to toss my cheating ass off the system although I don't get as many requests for links nowadays - my stats don't look too good as I have never returned a link. Ooops.
Damien,
I'm all about ideas and I like your enthusiasm - please email me and do me the favor of letting me know what and when to expect it here in the comments. I'll find it much faster.
Thanks and I look forward to it.
Hi Griz,
your idea about the backlink network is really great. If there is any help needed from my side then i'm ready to do it.
Hi Grizz
I've sent you an email titled Backlink Co-operative Idea.
Cheers
Damien
Hey Grizz, you have a team of employees taking care of your businesses, so how about one for your online network? ;)
Perhaps you can float it to Mark Burnett about The Internet Apprentice...
Hi Griz,
My, you have attracted a lot of comments again! I don't know whether to congratulate you or commiserate as it must increase your workload a tad!
A quick note on the expired domains with PR thing - from personal (disgruntled) experience, buying expired domains with PR is all well and good but they are useless as link providers as by the tine you've bought them, Google already has them lined up for a big fat PR0!
That is unless the domain still retains the backlinks that got it its PR in the first place. I've found that with nearly all of mine, those backlinks just disappear along with the PR.
Before I go off on one of my long comments, I could be using what I'm about to go off on as a post in one of my own neglected blogs! Ha, I think I've written more in here than in my own of late!
So now if anyone wants the full story they'll have to find which of my blogs is going to carry the story LMAO!!!
Ok, I'll zoom it....
Griz,
Thanks for your offer to help with a keyword. I went ahead and sent you a stupid one 'fix speakers'. After some research I discovered nobody looks for that.
'speakers' is over 1000 times better according to KeywordDiscovery on SelfSEO.com
I know you're swamped with comments 'cause I subscribed to the ones from this post and its too much :-)
The price of success?
BTW I misspell 'Enhanser' on purpose 'cause my last name is Hansen.
-Enhanserqczdlxyo
124 comments, yikes! Are you still reading these? :)
You mentioned for popcritics, that you would anchor 10 links with "movie reviews", "television reivews" etc. My question is: would you send all of these to the homepage or would you link them to the specific category URLs that popcritics has set up for those sections? Thanks for all the practical advice Griz.
Hey Grizzly.. I just bumped into your blog.. and I really must say that I like what you are doing here.. and U really seem to have a good understanding of how Internet Marketing works.. I run a blog on Internet Marketing I would have loved you to review it.. and tell me what you think.. but so many people have commented before me.. but I will keep in touch.. I am definitely bookmarking your blog..
OK, I figured out what zooming is. For all you other real beginners like me, that's what you do on the bloggingzoom.com website to promote each other's, and our own, blogs.
I went over there and plugged HTMMOFB and my own FIX ANYTHING blog
Thanks Grizz!
Have taken your advise and revised my title.
And ya, I do have a weakness for new themes. LOL
griz,
what i meant is that the post on the backlink solutions blogs are unrelated (one is about golf, another about health, another about credit cards... and they're all splat on the same page) so how can they build up authority on a keyword when google doesnt know what the site is about?
okay anyway regarding the blog that you're going to help me with (heheh), i've changed the keywords and added a new post about how to stop snoring and sleep apnea. so now i just wait ? :)
oh and your huge post about backlinks that blogger ate up? well i hope that you'll come to it someday in one way or another because it really sounds like a good read and i cant wait for it.
Blogger likes to give timeouts when you write huge comments. they should have an autosave feature for comments like they did for regular posts.
Regarding the backlink co-operative idea, sounds interesting. i'd like to be a part of it too.
cheers.
-hch
Aravind,
Thanks for the support and when I have something a little more concrete regarding a linking network I will let everyone know. I appreciate your offer to help.
Damien,
Thanks for the email - some good ideas and forgive me for not writing back just yet. I have received a few other ideas along with yours and I will get back to you once I have tossed things around a bit - nice to know we have one programmer among us.
Thanks for taking the time to help out. Will talk soon.
YC,
Believe it or not I have thought about hiring people to help out with my online biz but I can't get past the fact that once I show them what to do they won't have much reason to work for me as apposed to doing it for themselves. It's a conundrum.
Terry,
If you think the comments are work you should see my inbox. At least with the comments I only have to answer a question once and everyone can read it. The email questions are much the same and I have to answer the same questions over and over again.... aaaaarg.
It appears that the networks buy PR domains and then build them up before putting them in the system. I can't imagine how many they buy in order to get a few that manage to retain PR. As you said this is becoming harder all the time.
I have no problem with you writing more on here than your blogs - I'll take all the "free" content I can get. Thanks! lol.
Enhanser,
"speakers" is a much more popular keyword but it may be a little too competitive ( and generic )for a quick backlink campaign - it would probably take a few months of backlinking to see a noticeable rise in the serp's. I would go for a more specific keyword - like a certain type of speaker. Let me know if you want something else or I'll stick with "speakers".
Annabelle,
Yup, I'm still reading these comments. ha
I would send all the main keyword backlinks to the homepage in order to get it ranked for the main niche terms and I would use long tail keywords for all the individual page URL's like "I Am Legend" -"American Idol" etc. This way the pages would rank for each topic while the home page would rank for the broad terms like "Movie Reviews" - "TV Reviews" etc.
ilexx,
Leave me your URL and when I get a moment I will give it a once over. Thanks for the kind words.
Costa,
Perfect - now just work on getting backlinks with that term in the anchor text (Free Wordpress Themes). You should be able to dominate that niche with your content. When you do add another keyword to the title and go after it next.
Hch,
In my previous posts on backlinks I explained that backlinks fall into many categories from crappy all the way up to perfect. The better backlinks are those contained in text in a post as apposed to sitewide blogrolls or do-follow comments. The best backlink would be a text link using your keyword in the anchor contained on a site that is relevant to yours. The next best would be the same thing but appearing on a site not relevant to you although the post (snippet) is. These are the kind of backlinks these networks give out. They aren't the best but they are still better than most because they have your keyword in the anchor. For any backlink to be of any value at all it has to use your keyword.
Don't confuse PR with keyword authority - every link you get from anywhere, relevant or not, that uses your keyword will give "YOU" keyword authority for that term whether the linking site is an authority or not. If they are then the link has more juice than otherwise but even crappy links using your keyword helps more than links from great sites that don't use your anchor text.
This is confusing but I will simplify it this way. Get as many links as you can with your keyword in it. Some will be crappy and ignored by Google and some won't. In the end the site with the most keyword links will outrank the competition regardless of PR.
Btw - I've started sending you links but will add the new keywords.
Hi Grizz, it's me again Houston, it's been sometimes since i posted in here, I do have a bottle neck in blogs, i lacked content, even if i really write a post, it takes me a long time to get a post up, about 2hrs per post.
So may I know can PLR articles be used as contents and once setup and leave it. I know the fact that, a rewrite is necessary but aleast it proved so much faster than writing from scratch, not to say writing about a niche that I know off anything.
I do know the duplicate contents penalty but I really hope to build up my blogs as soon as possible.
Between do you think signing up for a mentor is necessary? Its always said from those millionaire IMers that finding a mentor to hand hold you from the start is the best as it would cut down alots of your learning time plus cutting down on the learning curve.
Do you learn the skills you have from someone or you learn it by yourself from scratch?
Hint: I don't have much money to engage a mentor, I had one recently and paid an installment but cancel it within a week, taking it as a lesson.
Any advise?
Houston
Grizz,
I sent you a message awhile ago but I don't think it ever made it. I know a programmer that may be interested in helping. She's a graduate from OSU and just moved to Canada not long ago. She's pretty savvy and I did some work with her on a couple of projects.
I also have experience in setting up Networks both novell and M$.( that's why I wondered if you could get away with clicking your own adds if you jumped to different proxy servers online(although I am not interested in doing this)
I also have a domain that has been sitting around for about 6yrs not doing anything. I actually started my search to make money online so I could use this domain. Unfortunately It's my last name I wanted to buy it before someone else did.
If I can use that to help, or anyone has any ideas let me know and I will gladly put it to work to help other people here.
Grizz, are you saying your secrets and knowledge will leave with you one day? Heheh
You can teach your children. :)
But I know where you're coming from. I do think however, that it is unlikely most people would do that - when they see that it's hard work they'll rather work for you and be paid for it. You just need to select people like that lol I might have to start looking at content providers myself because my sites which are making me the most are unfortunately ones which require some maintenance.
Believe it or not I have thought about hiring people to help out with my online biz but I can't get past the fact that once I show them what to do they won't have much reason to work for me as apposed to doing it for themselves. It's a conundrum.
You underrate the power of security. Let me tell you why I'm even doing this crap in the first place. I have a crappy paying , go nowhere job. There's no room for advancement. I could go to college and get a degree in something, but I like this whole blogging thing, so I'm trying that out, and if it doesn't work, I'll try learning to do IT or something. I'm just trying to take a different path, because I've never been big on formal educational institutions.
If I could work from home, so I don't have to do all that crap trying to figure out what to do when my step-daughter is off from school, and she didn't have to stay at school until 5:30 everyday. If I could have a guaranteed income. If I could still run the two sites I have. If I could get a home that's NOT on a freakin' state highway.
That's all I want. I don't really care to be a Entrepreneurial Magnate. I know I'm not alone in thinking that way either. That's what people are really looking for. Security AND flexibility.
Your fears are overrated. I have other stuff to respond to, but I'm out of time for now. Lousy 10 minute breaks. Grr.
Thanks Grizzly, I'll just keep doing what I'm doing. Success for keywords vary but I do have quite a few 1st page spots. For instance I'm on the first page for "ceiling ideas"
A specific type of speaker that I actually know a lot about is the
'JBL D130F'
That's the one I already have a page one for so maybe a more general
'JBL speakers'
would be worth a try.
This is fun. Its great to make progress.
Thanks Grizz.

Hey Grizz, great post. I started affiliate marketing in October of 2007 and now have a few things going including a blog.
I have done OK, but know I can do a lot better on keywords and search term rankings. I also would like your opinion on anything else I could do to take things to the 'next level'.
Only if you have tme of course...lol
Salutations Grizz,
I look at the staggering number of reponses that your latest down to earth blog post has received and it reminds me how lucky I am to have stumbled upon your blog in the first place; Thanks again for everything you have taught this newbie in just a few short months ( I only came on board last Fall after following the link from your Yahoo Answers post about Project Payday). You are definitely building up a stockpile of Good Karma, lol
Okay, enough of the mushy stuff; You mentioned that it is a good idea to avoid having too many back links coming from the same source (eg. from Blogger blogs). If this is true what is your opinion on Courtney Tuttle's "keyword sniping" technique, that recommends having around ten post-pages linking back to your homepage with the main targeted keyword? I'm really curious if there is a conflict with blogger on this?
Oh, and I have yet to see anything on my adsense account telling me to get a privacy policy up: is it because I have not yet really earned anything through adsense? Regardless, I want to get one up on the relevant sites, so is there anywhere you can send me for a decent guideline of what to include?
Wow, so many questions (lucky for you the Canucks game is about to start). Thanks again, Grizz!
-Stephen-
Hey Grizz, I know you use statcounter as well so I was wondering if you have seen such keyword seaches (Recent keyword activity) for your sites and what it really means:
e.g.
site:www.examplesite.com searchterm
I had a whole bunch of searches like this all of a sudden on one of my sites (which was the deactivated one I mentioned a while back) and trying to find out if something funny's happening.
Houston,
Nice to hear from you as it's been a while.
You can use PLR articles but as you are aware - rewrite them and make sure you change the Titles too - people seem to forget that.
I have learned from scratch but a mentor is not a bad idea if you can find one that isn't just out to take your money. Unfortunately Vic and Court are about the only two I would recommend - there are others out there I'm sure but I don't know them enough to say who. Perhaps my readers know of some decent mentors?
Failing that you can read all my old posts (good luck) and ask questions here.
Dennis,
Thanks for the offer to help and I will keep you and your friend in mind once I have an idea for the network.
Re: Clicking your own ads - don't ever do this even with proxies. Even proxies leave a trail and Google can pick out un-natural patterns easily. They probably know how many clicks will be from proxies out of every 100 a site gets and if you suddenly exceed this average - poof. Account banned. Remember that Google doesn't have to prove anything and can ban your account based on suspicion alone. Don't give them a reason to be suspicious.
Btw - I don't know anyone that has cheated adsense and not been banned. Don't do it. Ever.
Your 6yr old domain could certainly be used assuming we come up with a workable plan. Thanks Dennis.
YC and Fiar,
I am probably being over cautious and you both make good points about teaching others. Of course finding the right people and then finding the time to educate them are two more hurdles. Passing my knowledge onto my kids is something that concerns me though. If something should happen to me (knock on wood) it would be a shame to see all my sites erode into the web's black hole.
Fiar, I think you represent a lot of folks who have turned to the online world for a new start - if successful it has a lot of benefits over a 9 to 5. Flexibility yes but I'm not so sure how much security we have as things change online so fast. Then again the "real" world isn't all that secure either.
Re: "Not living on a state highway" - lol. I can't imagine the horror - I live about 300 miles from the nearest road, never mind highway although I may be a bit extreme for most. Ha.
April,
Thanks for sharing, I'm always curious how others are making out with BS. You seem to have things well in hand and I'm glad you are seeing some good results. Warn me if you set your sights on any of my niches - lol.
Enhanser,
Duly noted and I will target the new keyword.
Ed,
Welcome and I can take a look if you want to send me your URL.
Stephen,
Interlinking pages is not the same as interlinking blogs coming from the same IP. Court is right and I link every page in my blog back to the homepage. (All my post titles link to my homepage)
Google put up a pop up page on everyone's Adsense account last month and you couldn't log into your account without acknowledging you received the privacy notice. Not sure why you missed it.
In any event you can see how my privacy notice looks at the bottom of this blog. Just modify it for your site.
The Canucks???? Ha. I was a season ticket holder back when we had a team (The Jets) and haven't watched a game since they moved to Phoenix. I'm not bitter or anything...
YC,
The "Recent Keyword Activity" is the most important stat on stat counter. This tells you who and where your visitors are coming from and most importantly WHAT keyword they used to find your site. If you had a whole bunch of visitors showing up using the same term then you are/were ranking well in the serp's for that keyword.
This is a good thing and not funny at all unless I have not understood your question.
Hey Grizz, yup you misunderstood my question heh! :) What I meant was that I noticed suddenly while checking the "Recent Keyword Activity" that there were 500+ consecutive searches based on a query structured like this:
"site:www.examplesite.com searchkeyword"
I looked a bit further and it seemed that it might have originated from the friendly Google folks. Note that this was the site that was suspended by Blogger a while back. They returned it to me last week although the SERPs are still showing that wrong malware warning attached to it and I'm waiting for StopBadware's review so perhaps they were scanning it. Still not removed tho'.
Thanks Griz,
I would never attempt using proxies. It's not worth it. It was one of those "I wonder if". Being realistic "G" is smarter than me and it would be fruitless. Jumping around looking for Proxies would be more work than I want to do, better to use the methods your teaching. So, are you shooting for 200 comments this go around? :o)
Griz,
There is a blog (using blogger) that is using my articles without the required link back. How can I give them a scare? I have commented on their blog as to my warning and of course they have ignored me. That pisses me off as I have paid good money for all those articles.
Thanks,
Mike
The comment I had earlier that got eaten said that I have the same concerns as Mike Olbinski.
I had also mentioned backlinks. I am open to linking to solid content that has to do with comedy movies or tv shows, or any post that's funny. Also, anything making fun of pop culture would be relevant to my content as well.
I probably wouldn't link to everything, but it's worth a try. radioactiveliberty.com has a PR4 and humorblogging.com has a PR3. I'm just saying I'm open to requests that are relevant and quality content.
Grizz, you asked if "Political Humor" is the strongest keyword. That got me looking a little deeper. That keyword is not the strongest related one. Parody is slightly stronger, so I'll be working that one as well, but I'm keeping the blog title the same as it's the most descriptive.
"News" is a monster of a keyword, but then it's in competition with CNN, and not as accurate. I changed "commentary" to "editorials," which is a lot stronger.
okay this is puzzling, google just deindexed one of my blogs for no rhyme or reason. It was relatively new (less than a month old) and only got indexed recently when the googlebot finally got around to crawl it. I had been posting unique content regularly and i'm sure at least 6 or more pages from it were showing up in the index and today it's totally dropped from the index, even when i search site:sitename.com it gives no results. The google cache for the page is still there though.
i know some of you have been facing this indexed-then-deindexed problem too and i suppose its not really a cause for alarm but it's still confusing to say the least.
any idea what google is doing? they're not doing this on purpose are they?
YC,
You have me stumped with that one - haven't seen anything like what you have described before but if you figure it out please let me know as I have made note of it.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Dennis,
200 does have a nice ring to it... :-)
Mike,
If the Blogger Nav Bar is showing then Flag the blog in question and leave blogger a note that they are stealing your content.
Fiar,
You're a good man and hopefully a few readers will take you up on the links.
The Radioactive blog's title is about as good as you can get. Not sure what else you can do with Humor Blogging though - "How to Write Humor" might be something to think about from a search standpoint.
(Btw - love the sites)
Hch,
I am still getting new blogs popping in and out of the index and then finally back in as if nothing happened. I would just wait out this latest shuffle - G is still busy behind the scenes. Many will have noticed that they have been updating PR sporadically as well.
Hey Grizz, ok it's clear now. If you have something like that popping up in your "Recent keyword activity", it's Google or StopBadware scanning your stuff. I've just had them email me saying that I passed the review and the warning msg attached to my blog on the SERPs has been removed.
Now that I piece two and two together, I noticed the same type of search query on the same blog about a week starting before it suddenly got suspended. So it either means a routine scan from them, or something's fishy with your site and they're looking into it, just a note for all who might not have know or had the benefit (misfortune) I had. :)
Now, if only I could figure out which widget/ad had been hacked...
Okay Griz! I flagged it but I wasn't able to say why. I would hugely appreciate if you or any one reading this will flag this SOB for me:
Here is a link to one of my articles that he IS NOT providing the proper link back.
http://skinbodycare.blogspot.com/2008/01/what-is-mini-tummy-tuck.html
I'd appreciate the support of all the readers in here by flagging him.
Thanks in advance,
Mike
Mike:
Just a suggestion here, but if you were not able to leave any comment on why you flagged the blog in question and if the content doesn't appear offensive to Google at first glance (because it is just stolen and not inflammatory content in itself), you should make sure to follow up the issue by getting in touch with the big G -if you haven't done so already, just so they know why you flagged them for the content theft.
Hope you get satisfaction on this.
BTW: Maybe getting the whoisthis info on them could help embarrass them somehow?
Hi there! Oh my God, I would love to be in on this.I just stumbled onto your site a few days ago and have read the blogging basics lessons and am now at the point where I've written my article and set up my blog. I applied for ad sense and would love for you to look at my blog. I would love to be on board for your offer if it's not too late. It's
-itworks.blogspot.com
I am so into learning this as I have been searching for so long for an opportunity like this, please help me get started!
Unfortunately, Mike. I don't know if you can do anything. It was taken from here.
http://www.profoundarticles.com/articledetail.php?artid=72725&catid=709
note that the article directory states:
By submitting your articles to Profound Articles, you grant others the right to publish your articles - Other Profound Articles users have the right to publish your articles on their websites, in their newsletters or ezines, and more as long as the article is left in the original state. This includes the resource box which provides you credit as the author of the content.
Now, the copy/paste job this guy did is retarded, and there's none of the html, in addition to copying other things off the page. But technically, it's not yours anymore.
You're a good man and hopefully a few readers will take you up on the links.
Before you get me injuring my rotator cuff patting myself on the back ;) It helps me too, because otherwise I get caught in a trap of always linking to the same dozen sites over and over. I like to sprinkle in something new from time to time.
Here's a question, because it seems like you don't get many of those. *cough*
How much is it worth it to go back and re-edit old posts to add keyword relevance versus just adding keywords to new posts. Assume 2-3 posts per week new content. Short - not like yours.
Is it a waste of time to go back and start pointing the word "parody" (for example) to your homepage, or is it better to just let the new content start to take hold over time.
hey griz,
will giving some outbound links to other related sites help my rankings? Not a link exchange, rather linking to "relevant sources" such as wikipedia or something, it would help my site look more natural perhaps?
after all, a site with many backlinks but no outbound links does seem somewhat unnatural.
if it might help, maybe i'll just add a few (like two or three) generic links to wikipedia (related articles) and answers.com or something.
Hi Grizzly, I'm so excited about finding this site! It's an answer to prayer after searching so long for a way to make money online.
Single Mom, need a way to make extra money, can't make it on my paycheck!
I've followed your step by step guide on how to set up practice blog. I signed up for Adsense and next step is to submit article to other sites. Question: I am a distributor for an awesome weight loss product, should I have linked my website for this product in the blog set up when they asked me if I had a website to link to it? Is this good to do? I would love a way to direct people to my website with all of this but not sure if that's kosher. My blog is: naturalweightloss-itworks.blogspot.com I will be asking more for sure later, thank you so much for being such a giving wonderful person!
YC,
Great info and thanks for sharing it with us. I have been fortunate to have never received a malware warning but glad to know what the process is to get rid of it.
Mike,
I've flagged it but you should let Blogger know about the content theft as Stephen mentioned. As he said they won't know why you flagged it without a quick email explaining the theft.
Stephen,
You are dead on and thanks for the heads up.
Fiar,
You make a good point but I would still make the Jerk go through the hassle with Blogger if for no other reason than that he may add the credits next time. Probably won't but sometimes revenge is fun - oops that wasn't out loud was it...
Fiar again, (gotta learn to read more than 1 comment at a time!)
Is it worth re-editing old posts? Absolutely - I do it all the time. Get your main keywords like parody onto every post and interlink all pages that are relevant to each other as well as every page linked to the homepage. Every time you update a post G will drop in to crawl it again and follow the new trail.
Hch,
This is one of those ideas that gets mentioned often but I have no clear cut answer for you.
I have several business blogs that don't have a single outbound link on them and they rank well and all have PR3. Do you need outbound links then? No. Would I have higher PR and rank better with some outbound links? This I don't know but conventional wisdom would imply, like you said, that this would be more natural. Maybe it would help, maybe not but a few links to decent sites won't harm you. My advice is set up two sites that are similar and try it on one but not the other - bet you're sorry you asked now - homework and we will all be waiting for an answer so hop to it. Ha.
(A few outbound links won't hurt so give it a shot and see what happens - do your rankings change? PR?)
Newimproved50,
Hi and welcome. Blogs are used all the time to enhance websites and send traffic, links and PR to your main money sites. Linking between the sites is fine but having a quick look at your blog I have a few suggestions;
You are getting PSA (public service ads) Adsense ads which is not good. This could be for several reasons - Is your content duplicate? (Are you using PLR articles?) You are targeting a well know spam keyword - Weight Loss - which means you have been flagged from the start.
For now remove the adsense and write a dozen or more original content posts and submit them over the next few weeks. You have to convince Google that you are a legit site. Once you get indexed you can add monetization but be aware that getting your blog indexed given the niche is going to be some work. You will need a lot of decent backlinks and lots of original content.
If I may - you have picked an extremely competitive niche especially for a beginner and one that Google is wary of as spammers target this niche constantly. I hate to say this but I fear you will waste a lot of time on this and not make any headway - find a less competitive keyword or "long tail" and concentrate on it instead. The more related keywords you can rank for the easier it will be to target the main keyword later on.
YC,
I wasn't clear about your issue. I also noticed earlier that I received the same keyword activity. Both came from Google.lk.
One is info:mydomain.com and the other was site:mydomain.com
Was this something to be worried about?
Friar,
I meant to tell you before I really enjoyed your site. I always interested in politics and am involved in local politics. So, I always appreciate humor involved in with politics.
Thanks Grizzly, You are awesome. I just got an email from Adsense and they have approved site and will start putting on ads they said. (I told you I just started this process a few days ago when I came joyfully across your site!)
This is my article I wrote, using info from different sources but changing the words. Excuse me for asking, what is a PLR article? I still haven't submitted article yet to GoArticles.com as you suggested in beginner blog training course. I will wait and change main keyword, maybe to maybe to Detoxing? Thanks for your time with this newbee wannabee... being so busy as you I'm honored,
Denisjr,
I am not sure about "info:mydomain.com" but if you see a "site:mydomain.com" search string in your "Recent Keyword Activity" it could mean either you were being scanned by a Google bot or someone is just interested to find out more about your site. If you look at Visitor Path (I think) you can see from which IP the search resulted from, if it is identified as Google Inc then fine. If not, no idea.
I noticed similar searches a few wks before my site got suspended for malware detection. My understanding is that the scanning is done on every site eventually so if nothing happens to you, then fine. If not, your site SERPs will be slapped with a warning for everyone to see. If the site is a free Blogger blog, then it'll also either be suspended or deleted totally.
At the end of the day, if your site is still healthy traffic wise I wouldn't worry about it.
Grizz,
I've noticed a few new sites linking to mine lately. If your responsible I appreciate it very much. If you not then maybe I am doing something right :)
Thanks,
Gotafish
New Improved,
PLR stands for Private Label Rights which just means articles that can be bought from various sources online. The problem is that everyone has the exact same articles so you need to re-write them enough to make them original. They are of low quality and usually stuffed with keywords related to the title of each article.
Gotafish,
I've sent you 3 links so far - a couple of PR4's and a PR2. I'm glad to see them showing up. (if those were mine that is) More to come but not too many all at once. Let me know if your serp rankings for "fly fishing for beginners" improve.
Grizz,
Yeah fly fishing for beginners has jumped to my number 1 keyword. Ive moved to #5 on page 1 when I searched it a bit ago. I've also seen several of my articles getting published around the net as well. Traffic is finally starting to climb and CTR is around 5%. Thanks for the help and advice. Anything I can do to return the favor or help others let me know.
Gotafish
Gotafish,
I have you as number 10 for "fly fishing for beginners" and number 5 for "fly fishing tips for beginners" on Google.ca (Canadian Data Center).
Let's try for numero uno shall we...
Gotafish,
I searched for your site and had you at number 5 with quotes for: "fly fishing for beginners" and 6th without quotes. I also left a comment and sent some cents your way.
wow gotafish are your keywords (fly fishing for beginners) easier than mine or are you just doing better on-page optimization than me?
i don't seem to be ranking anywhere on the first 10 pages .... :(
maybe i picked something too hard...
Hch,
"Fly fishing for beginners" only has 500k of competing pages. Your keyword "How to get a better sleep" has almost 7 million competing pages. Worse is that no one searches for that term. I have been sending you links for "Sleep disorders" and "sleep apnea" and both have about 4 million competing pages but they do get people searching for the terms.
Your blog however is optimized for "how to get a better sleep" more than the latter two terms. Try and shift your posts towards the latter terms and ranking will improve. Gotafish's entire blog is optimized for his main keyword which just makes things so much easier to rank well for.
The whole point in me doing this exercise is for all of you to see how sites get ranked and what needs to be done to achieve high ranking. These two blogs are a prime examples of why one site ranks easily and another doesn't.
Hch,
I've personally been focusing on sites where my keyword has relatively low number of sites competing for the keyword so that I can see quicker results. Its really been more of a learning experience following all of Grizz's suggestions and tweaking the site to see how it reacts. Now that I KNOW it works I will turn my focus to finding more niches and expand my network to start earning. FYI, I killed all the adsense on my American Idols sites and my rate on fishing site went from 20cents a click to over $1 per.
wow i've become a example, heh.
alright i might have gotten off on the wrong foot and it's probably too late to change my blogspot url, but anyway it's time to head in the right direction. the current post i have is about "stop snoring" and i will write one about insomnia right away.
the post title will appear in the url, so technically it doesn't put me at a disadvantage right?
also going to tweak my blog description to give priority to "sleep disorders" and "sleep apnea"
i'm a little surprised, cause it would seem counterintuitive that a term like "sleep disorders" would be less competitive than something so long.
thanks for the golden advice. i think i can be a little too stubborn for my own good at times. heh.
Hch,
I didn't mean it to sound like I was singling you out as an example but I think this is a good way for everyone to learn as they can see multiple sites at the same time and see why some things work and learn how to tweak things properly.
While it may seem counterintuitive you have to think about how Google indexes pages. There are a lot more pages talking about how to get a better sleep than pages talking about sleep disorders. Every company that sells mattresses, neck warmers, feet warmers, sleep aids and pills etc will use the term "how to get a better sleep" on their sites whereas the types of sites that will use the term "sleep disorders" will be much narrower in focus - sites that probably aren't selling anything but are giving out info.
Keep tweaking - your learning a lot this way.
Grizz,
Have you had a chance to get around to looking at mine? I am starting to see some bursts but they are coming from places google.lk, google.sk google.ca
I tried to go back and edit some of my articles to target asthma treatment and one of my posts ended up being deleted. fortunately it was only my first post telling everyone I was not a doctor.
Thanks again,
Dennis
Dennis,
I've sent you several links as well but you have a highly competitive niche so it will take longer and unfortunately the health related sites I'm using first are not as high PR as Gotafish's links. Not to worry as I will send a lot more.
Note: Everyone on the list has several links pointing to them now and I will be adding more daily.
Thanks Grizz,
I have also been commenting on some asthma related forums that let me link using my keyword. I am also contining to submit to some article directories. I wonder if this will be comment 200??
