How to Optimize your Blog for Google Search Listings
Search engine optimization begins by realizing that you don't want to optimize for the search engines (plural) - you really only want to optimize your blog for Google.
I have gleaned from my comments and emails that a few of you are feeling a bit overwhelmed by information overload. You just started a blog for the fun of it and in due course you started learning a bit about this and a bit about that and before you knew it you have opened Pandora's box. You all want to make money with your blog. You have found out that it isn't that easy. What's the biggest single hurdle everyone blogging faces?
How to Get Traffic.
Sure this is obvious but worth emphasizing - without traffic your blog is pointless and has no hope of making money.
Not just any traffic will do however. You need search engine traffic - Google's.
I am going to try and simplify things as much as possible. There is a lot to learn but most of it can be added later. There are a few basics that need to be applied right from day 1 and this is what I will concentrate on here.
Ranking Number 1 in Google
SEO boils down to two things.
1) On Page Search Optimization
2) Off Page Search Optimization
That's it - see simple.
On page optimization boils down to two things.
1) Blog Layout (URL, Blog Title, Description, Sidebar Headers and then all the crap thrown in to bugger up the blog's layout.)
2) Post Layout (Post Title, Post Header, Sub Headers, Post Content)
Off Page Optimization boils down to one thing.
1) Backlinks (Quality PR, site relevant, keyword relevant links)
I'll make this really simple. Let's pick a niche (a whole other can of worms not covered today). Let's say I want to rank well for the term "Search Engine Optimization".
Blog Layout
The ideal URL would be searchengineoptimization(dot)com.
My blog title would be "Search Engine Optimization".
My Sidebar would have SEO in the titles.
You are not likely to ever get the perfect URL but it is wise to make your keyword fit into it one way or another. It may be ugly but having it in the URL makes a difference when it comes to highly competitive niches.
You can rank well without it but the top spots usually go to sites who have the keyword in the URL. See below (click to enlarge).
If you ignore Wikipedia the top ranking sites use the keyword and the rest don't. You can tell a lot about how Google ranks a page - in this case it is assuming I want information about SEO more than I want to hire an SEO company. The listings show two information based sites on top and the SEO companies fill in the rest of the list. Wikipedia is number one because it is not monetized. Google almost always ranks a non-monetized site higher in the serps when all other factors are equal.
Regardless of the URL you must use your Main Keyword in your blog Title and variations of your main long tail keywords in your description. Ideally you want only keywords in the Title and as much as possible in the description. See how my Title and description is set up below.
If you can create sidebar titles with your keywords used prominently great but not critical.
That's all there is to optimizing your blog's layout. Really.
The Google bot crawls your page from the top left, down the left column, then top second column and ends at the lower right corner of your page. It is looking for information in the form of text or html. It doesn't read javascript or images without alt tags.
It only wants to know one thing - what your page is about as specifically as it can.
When the bot visits my page it reads in order; my URL, Blog Title, Blog Description and then the post title, Content header, content sub headers, the content using LSI which means it can tell if your main keyword is backed up with lots of relevant content (long tail keywords) in the actual post, links, comments, and then the rest of the crap on my page.
Nowhere between my URL and my comments does the bot run into a distraction - no HOME page link - no previous post links, no menus, no anything that doesn't scream what my blog is about. By the time it reaches my actual post, the bot reads "make money online" in my URL, my Blog Title and my Description. The bot knows exactly what my blog is about before it hits my post. This is SEO. Now humor me - read the first 3 things the bot sees on your blog. If it can't tell what your blog is about by the time it hits your post then you have a problem.
This is what the bot sees on most sites,
http://everythingabouteverything(dot)com
Welcome to Larry's Blog
Join with me as I post my thoughts on everything in the known universe.
How would you categorize this. If you can't do it neither can the bot and it will get filed under the search terms "Larry" "Blog" "Universe". Really.
Now the bot reaches Larry's post but not before it is sent off on a half dozen links pointing to Larry's favorite posts or an affiliate link or two - and recorded that the site might be about "home" "links" "contact us" and various other things - but no matter as it eventually reads Larry's post entitled "My Thoughts on Everything" and after reading the post the bot decides the post is about "Larry" and nothing much else. We won't know because it will never be found on the serp's.
If the bot has you categorized by the time it hits your post you are already outranking most of the people in your niche. You may be 750 in the serps but there are millions lower than that.
Post Layout
The post is a bonus. The bot has me indexed for my main keyword before reading my post. After reading the post the bot will have added a good many long tail terms to categorize my blog under as well. In todays post it will know that this post is specifically dealing with SEO. The post title and 1st paragraph took care of that. Go back and read it - you can't help but know what my post is about and neither can the bot. This is SEO.
Does your last post tell the bot what your post is about in one paragraph - specifically? If it doesn't you have a problem.
If it has to decipher a post with lots of keywords but none of them are highlighted in bold or used as a header or heaven forbid not used in the title then your guess is as good as mine as to what it will or will not index the post under. It will usually pick the keyword used the most - not necessarily the keyword you wanted.
The remainder of your post should concentrate on using as many related keywords as you can to your Post Title's Keyword. These are known as long tail keywords. Don't just repeat the main keyword.
Most blogs who know what they are doing pick a keyword for the post title and one longtail in the content. This is correct if you write short posts. I like writing epic posts (duh - no kidding) and the reason is because I can stuff tons of related content into a long post. The benefit is that I get indexed for a lot of terms this way without having to write a lot of posts. Either way is fine.
I have had people say to me that they don't want to write such contrived posts - they want to write naturally. If the post looks contrived maybe you aren't a very good writer. I've stuffed the crap out of this post - does it feel contrived to you or is it natural flowing?
Reading this post can you spot all the keywords I will be indexed for?
Let's see...
Search engine optimization
How to Get Traffic
Ranking Number 1 in Google
On Page Search Optimization
Off Page Search Optimization
Blog Layout
Post Layout
Backlinks
SEO
and then a bunch of other terms like Page Title, Post Title etc.
The more terms I get indexed for the more traffic I get. Simple. Really.
And that's all you need to know about Post Layout. Again... Really.
An aside...
Do you know how much flak I get for using a free blogspot.com blog?
"What could he know - he's using a free blog. Hahaha!"
I know this - they rank really well on Google's search index. Most people assume this is because Google owns blogspot.
Nope.
It's because the out of the box layout of most templates are perfectly optimized for Google. Remember the first three things the bot sees? This template makes it impossible to screw things up. Wordpress self hosted blogs can be optimized just as well as this one but that's not what happens. People want them to look pretty and end up screwing them up with one snazzy plug in after another. All the crap you add for your readers just confuses the issue for the bot.
If you want to make money online then you have to forget about readers. You aren't looking for readers (in most cases) you are only interested in traffic. This is niche marketing.
Before anyone asks - yes you can get a "pretty" wordpress blog ranking well in the serps. Absolutely. Optimized content and titles can overcome crappy layout but you may not outrank the perfectly optimized competitor. Less is more in SEO. The easier you make it for the bot to categorize your blog and your posts the better.
Keep it simple - everything on your site that doesn't scream out your keywords is just fluff and isn't necessary. One Exception - Always have an "About Us" or "Contact" section. This tells Google that your blog is likely a legit site. Splogs don't leave calling cards.
This is long enough for today. I will cover Backlinks next post.
One last thing.
If you are starting a new blog - do not monetize it. I will explain further next post.
Everything I have just told you is exactly the way this blog is optimized. No secret tricks. Does it work? It may be ugly but there are only 10 other sites outranking me for the term "make money online" as I write this. You decide.
One more last thing... use your main keyword, in my case, search engine optimization , in your last sentence of each post. Just a little reminder for the bot as it heads off to read all the crap.

Project Payday - A Legit Method to Make Money at Home
I have included Project Payday on my blog for all of my readers who write in asking if there are any legit online programs that they can use to make some quick money. Project Payday is not a get rich quick scheme - it is more like a work at home job. You don't need a blog or website as it involves getting paid to try out trial offers from online advertisers. There is work to this but you can realistically earn a couple of hundred dollars a day if you want to put in the effort.
I have written several posts about this and suggest you start with this one. Project Payday
Unfortunately Project Payday is only available to American and Canadian users at this time. Oh and it is free.
Note - After signing up take advantage of the Fast First Training link - you can learn how the IFW system works while making yourself a quick $50.00.

As usual, great post Griz.
First let me tell you about my first niche blog. I started following you, Vic and Court and started my first niche blog. It was going great. I was getting about 50 search visitors a day after about 5 articles. Unfortunately on Saturday I think that I was sandboxed. I have fallen off of Google almost completely. Any tips for getting out of the sandbox?
In addition to this question, I thought that I would ask for a few clarifications from this current article.
1. Traffic from images - Does it matter if you host your posts images on your server or on a service like photobucket?
2. Does the bot see the image url or just the alt tag?
3. I know that you said that you are covering backlinks on your next article. This is great. I think that a lot of us have niche blogs set up now with some content. I currently have about 10 posts of content. But, I don't really have a game plan for getting the links.
Hi Fred.
I only post images on my server so I can't be sure about photobucket - Vic would know probably.
The bot reads text and html so both the url and alt tag should be read.
It sounds like you have hit the sandbox - hard to tell but I will talk about this in the backlinks post. Did you monetize the site already?
Hey Grizz,
I know I've probably mentioned this before, but while you rank pretty much in the same spot for both keywords: make money and make money online have you seen the difference in search traffic for the two!
I'm comin up behind you in my PR0 wordpress blog ranking 42 for make money but nowhere for make money online! ...however...
I've just found a little trick I can pull and I've just started using it to see if it makes any difference. It all started when I was pushing some nice bolded make money keywords in your comments - it gave me an idea I can play with on my wordpress blogs.
Its all about comments - I get a ton of crap spam comments that I usually just delete - but then it hit me. I can change just about everything on my self hosted blog via the database. See, when I tried to edit someone's spam comment on one of my Blogger blogs - the short of it was I couldn't!
But I sure as hell can with wordpress - so those spam comments can be edited to contain plenty of the keywords I want and as far as the Google bots are concerned, they're legit comments from other people giving me lots of keyword density!
Out of the box thinking and inspiration? Maybe.
What d'ya think?
Very informative post. Looking fwd to the backlinking post.
I did monetize it already. Should I have waited? I did not know that would send me to the sandbox.
Good info Griz,
What's funny is that if you do a site like this you can sometimes even beat the manufacturer of an item in SERPS if they're not optimized well and have a lot of fancy Flash animations up front.
I did this for a while on one of my guitar sites until the company in question hired someone with SEO sense. Until then they were on the 2nd page for that product, behind my site and several other customer reviews as well as resellers. Of course, whatever I did was by accident, not design, but it worked.
I waited all day to get home to read list. Great tips as usual. Getting page rank for keywords is an issue. If I use less searched keywords and get Google ranking for these keywords does that mean I will start getting ranked for the more searched keywords? Using a keyword like SEO which already has a lot of traffic and pages would be hard to rank for if you did not already have PR authority for your other keywords, Correct?
Hi Griz,
I know you recommend blogger for niche blogs. Let's say I want to own the domain in the case of maybe wanting to sell it some day. Is there a Wordpress theme you'd recommend that is SEO-friendly if I promise not to throw a lot of crap into it to distract Google?
Grizz: Great article. After reading it I re-wrote my post about blog contests using your guidelines. I just checked and if you search for those contests my post is in the #2 spot on Google page one just below some of the sites sponsoring the contests; in one case my post appears higher than the actual site hosting the contest.
Question: how far back can you go to "fix" posts so they're more SEO compatible? I fixed the aforementioned post within minutes of publishing it but I'm wondering - is it worth modifying older posts? Will Google re-crawl your pages once you've modified them? Thanks!
Griz,
As usual, I'm re-inspired after reading this... you are the king!
I've gone back and looked at the last posts on a couple of my blogs while reading this post. It's crazy how simple this can be...I just need to practice.
Thanks for the reminder and pointers!
-Thom
Fred... you shouldn't have monetized. I will explain in the next post.
Terry... Very clever - I wanted to change my spam comments too but wasn't able - never thought about wordpress. Be careful not to overdue the keyword density though.
Thanks Jimmy, glad to have you here.
Frank, I outrank the subjects of my posts all the time - for a while I was number 1 for "Blogger Unleashed" until enough of Vic's fans linked to him using the term. I'll settle for number 2 and just leach people off of him in the searches. Lol. BTW some of the best things I've done have been accidents - I learn new things daily this way.
Denise, You are correct. When starting out buildup your lesser long tail keywords and as you gain authority for these terms your main keyword authority increases with the long tails.
Sol, While I like blogger I wouldn't say you have to use blogger. I am comfortable with it and know the ins and outs using it. If others are more comfortable with wordpress then use it - SEO is SEO regardless of platform. I just pointed out that blogger is harder to screw up without putting in a lot of effort. I would see Court, Vic or Terry (in comments above) regarding wordpress themes - not my strong suit I'm afraid.
Hi Chanya, (Blogstruk)
I republish posts all the time to add keywords, change titles, fix links etc. The bot will crawl your pages over and over again but there might be a little delay before you see the changes in the index. Everyone could help themselves by doing a little re-editing especially with post titles. Never delete a post though - change it but don't delete it as this is what spammers do and flags will raise.
Thom, I'm glad I can help. It is pretty simple once it becomes second nature.
If any of you read Terry's comment you might want to try this. Sounds interesting but remember the density rule - don't use a keyword more than 5 or so times per one hundred words of content. More than this can lead to penalties for keyword stuffing. I should have mentioned this in the post but forgot.
Good Luck All
Griz
Grizz: by the way, dealdotcom has SEO Elite on sale for $97. I know that's a tool you've recommended in the past. Chanya
Another excellent post Griz...I love the way that you explain really complex things in such a simple way. I am doing it all completely wrong, but starting to learn, so maybe I will get better! Here's hoping! Thank you again for some really useful advice :o)
Outstanding! I'm not leaving my computer today until I implement every one of these tips.
Because my brain works better when it has a checklist, I'm going to condense your advice into bullet points for my own use. Would you mind if I put that checklist on my blog with a link back to your article for full details? Maybe other people are like me and would be helped by a Cliff's Notes version.
Thanks for more great advice. I've saved this link so I can go back and study your information -- I know I need to make some improvements.
Hi Chanya, If you use your own affiliate link you should be able to pick up SEO Elite for $97 anytime. I think it's $147 less commission = $97 on clickbank but I may be wrong. I do use this product regularly and it has been updated recently so not as "buggy" as it once was. It has two great features (lots more that I don't use) - it will track how you rank for all your keywords on as many sites as you have and it will find you all the high PR sites in your niche. A huge time saver.
Hey DV.
Thanks for that and glad to help - you music lovers should check out Divinyl's site, some great reviews!
Hi Carla, I wish I could sit uninterrupted all day at the PC - sadly no and I still haven't got to our skype business but I will - promise. I would never say no to a link - thank you and hope all this helps.
Feefifoto, Thanks for the comment and good luck with your tweaking.
Thanks again all,
Griz
Griz,
I have a new niche site set up on a used domain (over one year old) with over 30 pages indexed in google. I'm less than 2 weeks in and my site is on page 2 for my keyword and getting about 20 uniques per day from long tails.
Should I wait to monetize with adsense even though I'm on a used domain that's not sandboxed?
Thanks for this article Griz :)
Nothing like going back to the basics awaken the stubborn brain of mine to rewritten, retheme, re re everything on my blog.
Keep it up for I am waiting as always at my email inbox :)
Griz,
If I am focusing on a keyword like "green apples," does this also cover
"green apple" or do I have to separately target the singular?
Jimmy - go ahead you should be fine.
PapaJoneh - always nice hearing from a fresh face. Thanks so much for taking the time.
Fred - Google will index for both plural and singular on all terms. No need to use both.
Hi Griz
Your post is the most useful and easy to follow post I have read on SEO.
I have read about the importance of having anchor text that links back to old posts and homepage but notice you have NONE.
What's your view on having a number of anchor text backlinking to old posts?
My posts are indexed almost immediately and appear on pg1 or 2 for direct and indirect terms but my search engine traffic is still pretty poor. Can't figure why.
My content is not as brilliant as yours but it's not crap. I'm wondering if I should I hire some SEO expertise or not.
Thanks
Mambo
Hi Mambo
Great questions.
I am currently writing my backlink post and cover internal linking on it. For now let's say that there is a lot of different views on what we should or shouldn't do re; links.
I always link all the pages back to the home page (mouse over the post title) but only link from the front page back to secondary pages when the content is relevant which will ultimately mean two relevant internal pages are linked. BTW this is how you get a double posting on the serp's.
Let me tell you a story about SEO services. One of my best niches is fishing related. I have top spot for several dozen keywords. I compete with name brand corporations for many of the terms. They produce much of the product I sell but can't outrank me. A VP marketing contacted me one day to ask if they could hire me to teach their people how to increase their companies ranking. It turns out that the company had paid 4 different SEO outfits over the course of a year more than 6 figures in total to rank on page 2 for terms I ranked number 1 overall. This was when I first realized that there are no experts at this. This is so new and so changing that nobody can claim expert status and that includes me. I have changed what I do now from what I did six months ago and the best you can do is continuously experiment and compare the results.
To answer your question - no. Nobody else will spend the time or care enough to do as good a job optimizing your site as you will. They will take your money and fill you full of crap that "supposedly" works or worse it "used" to work. When in doubt examine the sites that rank well and figure out what they have done. That and a lot of experimenting is what I do. You can learn everything you need to know for free on the web. Don't pay for it. If you are ranking on page 1 and not getting much traffic then I wonder if there is much traffic for the term to begin with?
In case anybody is wondering I turned down the job as I told them I wouldn't help them kick me out of top spot. The end result is that they are still on page 2 but they advertise on my site. I make money and they get seen in the top spot - gotta love the internet. (An aside... if you get 1 corporate advertiser it seems the rest will follow. The top 4 name brands in my niche all advertise on my site now - very lucrative btw - if you can outrank coke for the term "coke" you'll be a rich man!)
Thanks for stopping by Mambo
Griz
Hey Grizz, just want to say thanks for all the tips and methods conveyed. Between you, Vic and Court, I've learned a hell lot and through using them and some good old trial and error I am now ranking on 1st pages of several long tails and hope to work on the main keywords soon for my niches.
I must go back and look at what I did (unknowingly) for one of my blogs which I never intended to be a niche just a fan blog of sorts but it's ranking super for many keywords without thinking about SEO. I think it's about time I looked at proper monetization of that one lol (which I never did).
One thing which I'm doing (that might not be the best way) and I would tell everyone is - don't wonder too much about which one is the best method - try it for yourself and see which one works best for you and best comfort level. I actually try to find the middle line between Griz, Vic and Court's methods and use them for my own. E.g. how Grizz and Vic do their content are quite different. But I go for the middle line. ;)
Hi Griz,
This post is great since I have been doing SEO with certain posts like this for a while and I can tell that it works.
What baffles me and am not 100% sure is the fact that when I write a keyword focused post I normally manage to get to the 1st page in Google within hours or days, but then after about 2-3 days the posts disappears totally from Google.
I have a feeling that is due to the sandbox, but would love for you to confirm this if possible.
Monika

Griz,
I'm so glad I subscribed to your blog. There's of course major buzz going on right now on Court and Vic's blogs talking about links and link exchanges and such in relation to Google rank. I think I'm getting dizzy with all the varying views.
I'm very anxious to read your post on backlinks. I'm so clueless about SEO, but am desperately trying to learn. With my blog, I've just recently found more traffic coming to my blog posts from Google searches and I didn't even realize I was using keywords in the posts. I was just writing as I normally write.
I'm very thankful to have found your blog, and I'm a new subscriber. I'm anxious to also know your thoughts on using Blog Rolls. I have a Blog Roll list of the blogs I currently subscribe to showing on my sidebar (haven't added yours yet), and I'm wondering if doing so is a good or bad idea when it comes to SEO or Pagerank.
Hi Griz,
When I started my blog in November 2007, How to Trade Share in Bursa Malaysia, my main keywords were not listed in the 1st page of Google SERP. I read your article in December 2007.
I followed your On Site SEO Optimization techniques. I changed the wordpress theme, change my blog Title and Description and most importantly wrote articles that are SEO.
On 1st February 2008, 3 of my main keywords (including my Title) listed as No.1 and 3 other keywords listed top 5.
I wrote an article on How I go from Zero to No.1 SERP. I hope you don't mind that I trackback the article to this post.
I hope to follow your guide on the Off Site Optimization soon.

Just wanted to come back to your blog and say Thank you so much! I started reading your blog a couple of months ago. I could have never dreamed of being found anywhere on Google. There are millions of pages for my main keywords. I followed your advice and now my main niche blog is on the first page of Google for my main keyword combinations, somewhere in the No.1 to No.3 position. It's absolutely crazy! I still cannot believe it. And I just started blogging three moths ago. Thank you so much again!
Hi Elaine,
Comments like yours make this all worthwhile. Congrats and I hope you continue with your SEO posts - you can get to the point where every keyword you target tops the serps and traffic just keeps on coming. Thanks so much for letting me know how you are making out. All the best.
Griz
Just want to say you have great information here.
i will visit you offen
I changed the url of my blog so the title and url are more closely matched. I didn't save the old title (the blog has more than 230 posts).
I submitted the new url to Google, Yahoo and MSN. How long does it take for Google spiders to pick it up?
I made the change late Sat night.
Grizz,
question about PR Vs relevancy for backlinks. Which of these two backlinks would you get if you had to choose one of the two: a PRO backlink relevant to your niche or a PR4 backlink not relevant to your niche? (let's say the 2 are Do follow)
Don,
If you have some solid incoming links to the blog it shouldn't take long - if you don't then get a few decent backlinks. This will get the spiders to drop in faster than just waiting for G to index you.
Atari,
Assuming both links are using a keyword I want in the anchor text - "make money online" for instance - then I would take the relevant PR0 over the non-relevant PR4 site.
I would do this because I can send the PR0 site several high PR links from my own blog network which will eventually give the PR0 site a higher PR. In the end it will grow into a relevant high PR link. The non-relevant link will never grow into a relevant one though...
Grizz,
love this read. I have a few basic questions about the "headers" and "sub headers" you are referring to.
I assume the header of this post would be, "How to Optimize your Blog for Google Search Listings". Am I correct? And if so I did a page source on it and didn't see any H tags at all so what exactly makes it the header per say? Just the fact that is bold?
Also the sub headers you were referring to confused me also.
Would a sub header be "How to Get Traffic." ? And the same question for that, what tells the crawler that is a sub header?
And maybe I am completely off and can't pinpoint what headers you are referring to.
Thank you so much for all of your help!
Travis
LOVE your make money online blog Griz ... I have huge respect for what you are giving back to those searching for a way to make this work.
I've been following the blog for a while now (as well as the other boys' blogs - Vic, Terry and Court), but am not much of a commenter. At my current level of seo expertise, I get more than enough value from the posts and the extensive help you provide in the comments. You have quite an astounding amount of information here.
Anyway, I got to the end of the comments and found myself thinking "Alex! I know an answer to this post!" It seemed a perfect opportunity for me to get my feet wet and finally get involved in the community ... by contributing back a bit of knowledge that I actually do know ... and maybe save you a few minutes typing. Thanks again.
Travis - the title, headers and sub-headers are all indicated via HTML markup - ie. tags, as opposed to styling. Although the <b> tag will affect the weighting of text, it does not indicate a heading. So the tags to look for are the <title>, <h1> <h2> etc. tags. Look closer at the source, they are all in there. <title> is way up in the <header> section.
<title>How to Make Money Online for Beginners: Search Engine Optimization Basics</title>
If you are using blogger, you can set this by going to the dashboard, and going to the settings page for your blog.
All of the <h#> tags (<h1> <h2> etc) are headers. The <h1> tag is your main page header, and its' content will be given more weight than the other headers.
<h1 class='title'>
<a href='http://makemoneyforbeginners.blogspot.com/'>How to Make Money Online for Beginners</a>
</h1>
As far as markup goes, don't be confused by the class=
'title' within the <h1> tag - this is simply a css style, and has nothing to do with title.
Finally, sub headers are the content within header tags other than your main <h1>. Ie. the <h2> <h3> etc tags.
This now leads to the topic of optimizing your markup density as well as your keyword density - for example, as Griz mentioned, take full advantage of the extra weight that Google gives to the <h1> tag, make sure your keywords are in there ... but you can't start stuffing <h1> tags all over the place, that simply won't be helpful. There are others who are more knowledgeable in this area than I, so I'm going to stop my comment here and go read some more.
Hope this is helpful.
Travis - see Brodderick's answer.
Brodderick - very cool and thank you. I couldn't have done a better job.
Btw... nice loooong answer - lots of content. You catch on fast and could write for me any day! lol.
Hi Grizz, two questions.
I am learning so much on SEO from your blog but noticed something.
1. some are not using their sites when commenting. I guess their sites were reported as spam etc.
If I have niche sites or authority site but not a MMOblog, what do you suggest when I or someone comment on your blog- to show niche sites or it is suicidal.
2. I read about link clusters or link farms what ever you call, I am looking for a detailed post (5000 words monster he he he). If you have already written on it, please point me to that link. Otherwise would you write about it so I want to know how to create those to get good backlinks to my niche sites and not leaving footprint so they won't get into trouble.
Stanley,
It's best to keep your niche sites to yourself. If you have a social blog or a flagship style blog then use them in your comment link.
I haven't written about link clusters directly but Court and Frank have. The links are on my sidebar. You'll have to search their archives but both (I think) used the term "Link Clusters" in the post titles so you should find the articles easy enough.
Awesome post! Thanks for all the tips. I have been here before but it has been awhile so I guess I better subscribe.
Brodderick, thank you so much for the help. So Griz you don't add any {H#} in your actual posts you just let blogger handle all of that with the actual template then is how I understand it by looking at the source?
Also quick small question maybe you can point me in the right direction. The social bookmarking at the bottom of all your posts is dynamic, and I'm betting you do not set each one statically after you make the actual post. What I'm asking is if you can point me in the right direction of how I can dynamically set my social bookmarkings at the bottom of my posts...
Thank you so much and I need to catch up I am still in your January 08 posts :)
Travis
Been reading this blog and following along with the ideas for about 2 weeks now. Gone from zero traffic to now 50+ visitors per day and climbing AND actually making steady money (which is also increasing in line with the traffic).
What you say makes perfect sense and furthermore it works. Thought I would mention a tool I've found very useful - SEOQuake (search for it, its a browser plugin). I ran it against this post and here's a snippet:
make money online 31 1.04 673,000 550,000 $3.09
to make money 20 0.67 550,000 673,000 $3.33
search engine optimization 13 0.44 450,000 550,000 $8.61
make money blogging 7 0.23 8,100 9,900 $4.45
This is a report on keywords used in the posts together with counts, density percentage, previous and average monthly searches and CPC.
As you would expect, this post is nicely focused on profitable keywords. Ran it against one of mine - not such a pretty picture. But at least I can now clearly see where the lack of focus is and also pick up on some really good keywords I was accidentally using but had no clue how good they were!
Thanks for the great advice.
KuleKat
Last month the PR of my site www.iCBSE.com was 4 but now the google decreased the PR of my site from 4 to 0.
Please tell me what could be the reason ?
